    Dysfunctional Environment

Grunt Worker (Current Employee) Weston, MA

Prospeople are nice, starting salary is better than most places

ConsIf you work full-time be prepared to work every Saturday and Sunday; major communication issues with management; inadequate training; lousy benefits; no employee discount; lots of food wasted that could be donated to needy causes

Advice to Senior ManagementEveryone needs to get on the same page; communication is a joke; full-time workers should NOT be forced to work every Saturday and Sunday; training is inadequate; employees deserve a store discount and Roche Bros can certainly afford to pay for the upcoming Employee Day @ Canobie Lake instead of having employees pay $10 towards it - what a joke.

    Nice upscale chain

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsBenefits. Health insurance and time off. Vacation, a lot of paid holidays, sick time, 2 personal days. Not bad for a grocery chain.

ConsToo many chiefs in the main office that aren't on the same page. You do what one wants, and the next one comes in and wants something totally different. Annual raises should be based on your evaluation. Not given out before your evaluation.

Advice to Senior ManagementCommunicate. Please get on the same page so everyone's expectations can be filled. Please be reasonable as well when dictating the hours to fulfill these expectations.

Employees generally buy into strong customer service culture, but day to day prices are well above the norm.

    Clerk/Cashier (Current Employee)

Prosemployees generally get along well, customer service is as valued as any supermarket

ConsNo employee discount, nothing in prepared foods/deli/bakery is actually made here, employees are never asked for suggestions, pay increase rate is pathetic, many corporate office members are unnecessarily unfriendly to employees doing grunt work

Advice to Senior ManagementOffer more incentives for accomplishments, be friendlier to minimum wage workers, emphasize selling ready made products in the store

    Happy to be here

Sevrvice Clerk (Current Employee) Acton, MA

ProsI really like working here. It's a very good place to work for retail wise. Nice pepole to work with. Good hours to work every week. Descent wages

ConsWell the shift hours always seems to be changing. Not enough positions that are open for pepole to move on up. Other than those two cant think of any.

Advice to Senior ManagementHave a hiring freese that way other workers can have chances to try a different a job position before you hire more workers

Good to work for through school, but thats it.

Kitchen Associate (Current Employee) Mashpee, MA

ProsThey are flexible with hours and it is near immpossible to get fired. It is a good place of employment while one is working their way through school. They let you come back every summer and during holiday breaks. You also recieve profit sharing checks and vaction time as part timer as long as you work over one thoussand hours.

ConsThe management is very disrespectful and there is almost no opportunity for advancement. They treat their full time employees like slaves and care nothing for their personal lives. When it comes to disciplining those who need it nothing gets done and others have to pick up the slack for the lazy ones.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more fair and compassionate to their employees.

Could be better, could be worse.

    Cashier (Current Employee)

ProsIf you stay in one store long enough, you make a lot of friends and can genuinely enjoy working. They are pretty understanding when it comes to your personal life and try to help you out with time off and whatnot. Employees that work in the stores really go out of their way to help the customer; #1 in customer service.

ConsUnless you work in the direct main office, trying to get a promotion is a crapshoot. If you don't know one of the higher ups in the company, your chances of getting the higher position drop dramatically. The pay raises aren't the greatest ever but you can't really complain too much about getting a raise every so often. I feel as if should we have complaints that they don't get answered and we would have a target on our back should we say something.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart giving promotions to people that deserve it and not people that are relatives of influencial people in the company. Focus on giving people within the company more opportunities to advance and not just hiring outside help. I feel that when i started with this company the "your family deserves the best" motto applied to the Roche Bros. employee family as well as the customers. Now i feel that upper management only sees dollar signs and not people. Treat us with respect, become more hands on and don't turn employees away when they need help. It's the people in all of the stores that keep this company running and not the few that sit behind a desk. They need to remember that and start embracing the family aspect again.

Used to be a service oriented company. , no longer is.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsDecent pay, some nice people. Major flexibility in scheduling .

ConsManagements goal is to overwork poor schmucks by under staffing to the point of it being impossible to get the job done properly.

This company is stuck in the dark ages of technology. - We have no tools to help customers.

You end up picking up other peoples slack when they don't do their jobs.

Advice to Senior ManagementEmbrace technology to allow your people to serve your customers. (they want to know when the out of stock item is going to be back.)

I cant remember where everything is off the top of my head (no there isn't time for me to go find my manager , they don't want to wait)

Get rid of people that don't do their job, instead of allowing them to continue and have others pick up their slack.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
