Building Trust Everyday is a big part of Rockwell Collins

    Senior Systems Engineer (Current Employee)

ProsIntegrity, Loyalty to employees (at least at a personal level), great community of excellent engineers, fun and challenging work, great customer focus.

ConsExpensive High Deductible health care, Salary Compression after many years service, limited upward mobility unless in Cedar Rapids.

Advice to Senior ManagementFigure out how to give substantial raises (5-10%) every 4-5 years or you'll lose folks. 2.5% doesn't build loyalty.

A Company that Lives It's Values

Principal Systems Engineer (Current Employee) Cedar Rapids, IA

ProsRockwell Collins is a great company to work for. It's senior leadership practices it's motto of "Building Trust Everyday" both within the company and with it's customers. The work is challenging and individuals wno perform well are appropriately compensated. The company invests in it's employees through it's internal training programs and encourages pursuit of higher education. The leadership I have had the pleasure of working under have consistently emphasized work/personal life balance and have supported me throughout my career.

ConsCedar Rapids isn't for everyone. It is a wonderful town particularly for family oriented activities, but not be attractive for some younger employees looking for a more urban environment.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep on doing what you have been doing. You have a good recipe; don't change it unnecessarily. Maintain your values, they have been key to our success.

    Great company to work for

Director (Former Employee) Cedar Rapids, IA

ProsExceptional CEO - Clay Jones is a charismatic, focused and driven leader
Strong financial position of the company
    Great work life balance

    ConsIowa/Cedar Rapids centric culture
    Lacking in true Global Diversity

Advice to Senior ManagementIf Rockwell Collins wants to become a global company, you should focus on building a globally diverse senior leadership structure. The focus of diversity at Collins appears to be based on skin color as opposed to building a true and exceptional workforce that has strong global work experiences. Company should look outside its walls to attract & retain senior leaders.
