I have been working at Rockwell Collins full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Many different kinds of things to do as long as they are systems or software engineering
    Can learn about avionics systems
    Great people to work with
Extra vacation at Christmas time due to plant shutdown

    Cons

Very low chance of advancement within the company. Unless you are a complete rock star, you will be stuck at the same (non management) level for many years.
Give lip service to advancement opportunities, but don't follow through with them
Have to work 15 years before you move from 3 weeks vacation to 4 weeks vacation

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Promote people within their bands
Advance people to higher levels so they don't leave
Modify vacation so 4 weeks kicks in sooner

I have been working at Rockwell Collins full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The company is wisely split between counter-cyclical industries, namely commercial avionics and defense. Work/life balance is generally good. Tuition reimbursement is good. Salaries are fair.

    Cons

With around 90% of employees in the geographic area around the headquarters (Cedar Rapids, IA), there is a undeniable favoring of teams there. In some cases, middle management actively undermines projects at remote sites.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reign in or outright replace petty, vengeful middle managers who clearly did not learn in kindergarten everything they needed to know. Provide more opportunities to move across functions.

I have been working at Rockwell Collins full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Good Benefits, Basic Compensation and Bonuses.

    Cons

No personal/professional growth. If you work outside of Cedar Rapids, IA or for a RC subsidiary career progression is none existent. You are treated like "temp" employees.

    Highly structured environment

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

I have been working at Rockwell Collins

    Pros

Opportunities to participate on cross-functional teams and projects enterprise-wide.

    Cons

Structured much like the military, a key client. Layers of bureaucracy, focus on rank, moves very slowly on employee initiatives, lots of self-aggrandizement at the higher levels, promotions based more on time in rank and "who you know" than performance.
