I have been working at Rockwell Collins (More than a year)

    Pros

Overall a well run company that respects its employees. Rockwell Collins seeks feedback of managers from its employees through anonymous surveys.

    Cons

Corporate Micro-Management from Cedar Rapids Iowa for our Location in Tustin California is out of touch with what makes the most sense for the type of business we perform in Tustin. Company Sponsored Health Insurance deductible is much too high and the customer service leaves much to be desired.

    Advice to Management

Lower Health Insurance deductible. Lessen the amount of Cedar Rapids involvement divisions that are in another state.

    Pros

It was a relaxed environment. You were given work to complete, and were not continuously monitored, but just expected to complete it on time and accurately.

    Cons

The corporate headquarters are based in a small town in Iowa. It's not a terrible location, but there isnt much to do outside of work.

    Advice to Management

Be very clear with what you expect from interns. Some were given a project with a very vague goal, and the scope seemed to change every few weeks.

    Pros

Rockwell Collins has a broad product line so there's an opportunity to work with and learn about many different types of equipment. They have an active employee recreation program, with sports and other activities available year-round.

    Cons

As a defense contractor, continued employment depends on their continuing to win contracts for new business. Occasionally there are business downturns that result in layoffs, which is why I no longer work there.

    Advice to Management

Next time layoffs are needed, why not start near the top? There seem to be an awful lot of management layers.

    Pros

The people are amazing to work with and there are numerous opportunities here. Recently the company has made strides to improve engagement and infrastructure. In my experience work times have been flexible, which is a large perk for me personally.

    Cons

We are a large company, so change takes time. Navigating the culture, language and multi-generational workforce can be challenging.

    Advice to Management

Continue to listen to the employees and break down barriers (both short & long term). Improve new leader tool kits, set them up for success before they take the role.
