    Pros

Vacation, Friday's off, Christmas shutdown, you wear a lot of hats = you get a lot of experience in the different areas of product design.

    Cons

There are a lot of random processes, unconnected software programs which we use. The way we release part numbers and get them certified to an industry standard is not always the best.

    Advice to Management

The immediate management here is really great, they're open to new idea and they accept criticism. As for the CEO, keep pushing us into the 21st century and please do not stop making changes. All of the recent changes you have made to salary structure and promotions, have made a difference.

    Pros

Culture is changing for the good. Cost of living in Cedar Rapids is relatively low. Great neighborhoods and schools, great place to raise a family. Pay and incentives are improving.

    Cons

Still need to work on career development.

    Advice to Management

    Pay attention to career development.

    Pros

Very advanced technology company. Well run, good c-level execs. Opportunities are there to be had if you extend yourself and show initiative.

    Cons

Medical Benefits are not the best. Very high deductible plan that forces most costs to be borne by the employee. Could be due to the "Cadillac tax" that the government has imposed.

    Advice to Management

Restore benefits, medical and/or 401k match percentage. Lacking that allow for 4 weeks vacation at 10 or 15 years tenure rather than current 20 years.

    Pros

Rockwell is transforming its global IT infrastructure. After years of criticism the company has recently taken an innovative approach in its shared IT services. People are very nice and want to contribute to the overall success.

    Cons

Middle managers operate with a mindset of managing people vs managing talent. Managers tend to be political and approach projects with the intention of covering themselves vs operating in the world of possibilities.

    Advice to Management

Flatten the organizational structure. Many middle managers and directors are not needed and often get in the way.

    Pros

I feel very fortunate to work for Rockwell Collins. My leaders have always cared about me as a professional and a person. I get to do work that I enjoy and the company paid for my graduate degree. Having the holiday shut-down is the best!

    Cons

It is sometimes hard to get decisions made quickly and efficiently. Being in Cedar Rapids is a blessing and a curse. It can be hard to move people here, but for us it is a great place to live.

    Advice to Management

Please keep up all the positive changes you are making in the company. Every word you speak and action you take has an impact on your people. Even if it is something insignificant to you it can be huge to someone in your organization. This works in both positive and negative ways.

    Pros

Tight knit group of engineers (within your division). Everyone works as a team to get the job done. Managers, in general, look out for their group and keeps them informed. Provides a career development roadmap

Slightly stuck in old ways of engineering. Focus on Lean practices can distract from real issues hindering progress
