    Cons

I worked at Rockwell Collins as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

The OCM group has some solid methodologies in place. This is a great place for someone who wants to work within a certain methodology and apply their own professional capabilities.

    Cons

Not all of the people in their roles are qualified to be there. Need to ensure that well qualified people with high EI are recruited into the organization.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I had great managers that allowed me to excel.

I have been working at Rockwell Collins full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good challenging work and generally good people to work with.
Collaborative in some areas and that's what makes the company effective.
Some good leaders that help move the dial in the company.
Looking to become more modern and attractive to new employees or younger talent that is the future of the business.

    Cons

Lack of organizational agility to adapt to rapid need for change.
Poor talent retention, but mainly driven by location of most jobs being in Cedar Rapids, IA and a cold climate.
Outdated buildings and workplaces in most buildings.
Medical benefits, retirement savings plan, etc. are getting worse with no signs of improving.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a culture that allows the company to move quickly and adapt to the ongoing change of business demands.

I have been working at Rockwell Collins full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

I love what I do and the people I work with everyday. Great work/life balance and excellent leadership support

    Cons

Compensation tends to drag behind the competitive average and promotions are slow unless you fight HR every step.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Over-communicate your view of the future of the company. Many engineers struggle with the direction of the company and their place in that future.

I worked at Rockwell Collins full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The projects are cutting edge. The employees (workers & managers) are all friendly and helpful. The site I was at products Heads Up Displays for commercial & Military aircrafts and Helmet Mounted Displays for Military.

    Cons

The only con I can thing of is that the Management can be slow to disseminate info from upper management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A steadier flow of info down the ranks.

Current Employee - Senior Electrical Engineer in Cedar Rapids, IA

I have been working at Rockwell Collins full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The people who work here seem to be some of the best and brightest in the industry. While there are the people who seem to now know how to tie their own shoes they are easy enough to avoid. I have really enjoyed being able to learn from some very brilliant minds.

    Cons

The defense industry is a difficult industry at this time specifically working on government contracts. Rockwell has taken alot of measures to counteract this however the situation has injected alot of unknowns into the work place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend more time fighting for your engineering staff and working towards growing them. There will soon be a knowledge and skill gap that some very talented engineers can grow to fill with the right mentoring.

    Pros

Lots of good people to work with (at least in my group).
Challenging technically, but not fast-paced engaging environment.

    Cons

DO-processes hinder creativity. Easy to feel underutilized.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
