    Rolls-Royce Work Experience

Build Engineer (Former Employee) Indianapolis, IN

ProsBest reason to work a Rolls-Royce was the Free Coffee initially, but they shortly did away with that, seriously.

ConsWorking conditions - getting away with NOT paying time/half, double time. Being lied to about length of contract.

Advice to Senior ManagementGrow up, be professional. Treat employees like they should be treated, be honest. I was so excited to work for someone like RR, BUT after this experience have changed my mind 1000% very very very disappointed.

No leaders, no common goals - it is a jungle!

Purchasing Executive (Current Employee) Mount Vernon, OH

Pros1. Brand name recognition. If you are new in the market, the Rolls-Royce name in your resume will help you a lot.
    2. Depending on the type of job you have, you will be able to travel and visit a lot of business and companies.
    3. You will meet a lot of interesting business people from all over the world
    4. Marketing/Business Dept. = new building and more advanced thinking people. Much more easy to handle and to discuss any projects.
    5. Quality Dept = Nice people and open to new projects. Most of the quality guys are motivated with their job and group.

Cons1. Terrible workplace environment in some areas. Most of the good people leave in one year. Some good stay if attached to the right department.
    2. Purchasing = Stay away. No leaders, no common goals, crazy talk, people trying to hide themselves in the crowd... You will have a heart attack in 2 years. And nobody will remember that you've ever been there. Sorry.
    3. Logistics = from the bottom to the top = Blue collar. If that is your cup of tea, go ahead. Be prepared for dirty offices and low education levels.ok, there was one guy in Logistics, an executive, sometime ago, that was really nice. When? Forget it...
    4. HR = You will process a lot of paperwork. Strategy? Read the instructions from UK again.

Advice to Senior ManagementFirst of all we need to know who is the management and where they are... I am executive, so it is hard to find a correct answer for this.

    The pendulum is swinging

Engineering Manager (Current Employee) Indianapolis, IN

ProsLots of smart people work at RR. It USED to be a great place to work.

ConsThey recently took away a week of paid holidays, retirement healthcare benefits, and implemented a forced distribution. Pay is well below industry average. HR is outsourced, and the little bit that is left treats people like they are 10 years old. The company has record sales, profits, and orders; meanwhile the CEO gets a 29% pay raise but the management bonus doesn't pay in full.

Advice to Senior ManagementQuit with the HR bean counting. Your employees are smart enough to realize what's going on.

It's amazing that they are still in business

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThere are no pro's to working here.

ConsHostile working environment in the divisions. IT team is terrible.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart doing business the US way not the UK way.

This place is a nightmare. 90% of chance your cubicle will be with rats and cockroaches.

Purchasing Manager (Current Employee) Mount Vernon, OH

    ProsThey pay you on time

ConsDo you have an MBA? Hide it. Nobody wants it here. Do you have a nice career outside? People will ask you "why did you come here? This place is a joke." Nepotism, silos everywhere, high turnover, 5 different bosses in a year. Just stay away if you can (If you leave in Mt Vernon, you have not so many choices).

Advice to Senior ManagementStay away. Just go back to UK as soon as you can (as most did). If you prefer to stay, good luck. This place will take a looooooong journey to become something "regular". World class? Apply for jobs in GE.

    Decades behind..

    (Former Employee) Mount Vernon, OH

ProsWork-life balance is good, but thats where the goodness stops.

ConsLocation is a cowtown. Many free-riders and the place is infested with former incompetent GM and Delphi employees that have formed a nice social network that impedes performance.
Mediocre competence of hired staff compared to industry leaders.
Highly political and dysfunctional with high turnover - revolving door with 3 leadership changes in 5 years. Worse bureaucracy than a third world government. Union is inefficient.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement is about getting things done, not lip service

I feel this is the worst employer I ever worked for.

Senior Engineer (Former Employee) Indianapolis, IN

ProsThe gas turbine engines are interesting to work on.
Indianapolis is a good affordable location.
Like when you stop banging your head on a wall, it feels good when you leave.

Cons1. Worst offices in America. The workplace environment in some offices is unbelievable.
    2. Definitely a good old boys network. Promotions are not based on ability.
    3. Women need not apply.
    4. Blacks need not apply.
    5. Many layoffs. Hire and fire mentality.
    6. Technical expertise has been lost; Management at this site is incompetent.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement is hopeless, they will not listen to constructive criticism. A product line of obsolete engines will lead to closing this site within 5 years.

Don't let the name fool you.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Indianapolis, IN

ProsThe organization is generally cooperative with work life balance issues. It is an opportunity to work for an international organization.

ConsThe company is very political. Decision making seems to be made for personal rather than professional reasons. Talent level is poor. Working conditions in Indianapolis are horrible. The organization has been a dissapoinment to me on almost every level.

    Awful and demoralizing

Manufacturing Engineer (Current Employee) Nottingham, England (UK)

ProsGood pay, pension and holidays. Some fantastic employees. Frequent turnover of managers means if you don't get on with your Boss it won't be for long...

ConsBlame culture with managers always looking for someone to use as a scape goat. Don't listen to employees. Managers always want to do things their own way. Too many plans that are never fulfilled. Too cost orientated which has lead to dangerous penny pinching. Too long to get the simplest tasks done if you need others input.

Advice to Senior ManagementLose the egos

    – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
