I worked at Rolls-Royce as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

They produce a terrific product, and their staff is top quality.

    Cons

Top heavy review process, with to many checks and balances. Can not respond quickly to changes.

I worked at Rolls-Royce as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Great working environment, tons of opportunity for young employees. Good benefits and compensation. Only reason I didn't return there full time upon graduation was family related and couldn't stay in Indianapolis.

    Cons

For some people, it seems like there may be a lot of travel involved at times. Some people may look at this as a pro, but it's inconvenient for my home life. Compounding this is the potential for a lot of this travel to be international. Rolls has an open work environment which may rub some people the wrong way, but I think it creates a great team environment.

I have been working at Rolls-Royce full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

As an engineer at Rolls-Royce, your job role may range from a highly technical role (fluid systems analyst) to report writing. In any role, however, you are guaranteed to be constantly learning. The Indianapolis campus produces several of its own engines, designed by the former Allison Engine Company (bought out by Rolls-Royce in the mid 90's). However, the Indianapolis team is in the process of becoming more globally-oriented. Therefore, depending on your role, you may work, to varying degrees, using the British, American, or German design process. This provides good opportunities for not just technical learning but also process and intercultural learning. The company invests a large amount in R&D, making it

    Cons

The company is slow to adopt change in software and functions quite bureaucratically. These factors are understandable and typical of large corporations, but can have a significant effect on work efficiency.

    I worked at Rolls-Royce

    Pros

Where else do you as an intern have the opportunity to walk around the factory, meet with executives, and make meaningful contributions to projects that are on the leading edge of technology in their field.

    Cons

Some managers do not provide enough direction and work at the start, however this ends up being a good thing as it causes you to grow your confidence and seek your own tasks and to do the work that you feel is necessary.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have specific assignments you want interns to do.
