I have been working at Rovi full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Low to mid-level management are great and always willing to work with you to ensure you have resources to work with as well as ensuring team cohesiveness. Working from home is always an option, great vacation and sick time, yearly bonuses and a fun office environment that borders on friends and family than simply co-workers.

    Cons

The best office in the entire company exists in Golden, Colorado which is what this review is based on. There the on-site management really seems to care about their employees. Unfortunately, this attitude is not shared by anyone above the director level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Specifically to executive management: employees are not expendable. The work we do enables the company to be successful. When you treat your employees with disregard, it brings morale down. Happy workers are more likely to really work hard to achieve all road mapped goals the company seeks to meet.

I have been working at Rovi as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Solid organization with really smart engineers & designers. I work as a UX design-engineer & I'm actually a bit surprised how it's been thus far. Granted, the work is challenging since I'm in a position to design & engineer new ideas but I have the support of the team & management to execute on what needs to get done.

Since it's a technology organization, it's a lot of trial-&-error & the company is cognizant that it needs to do this in order to develop good-to-great products. I'm with it.

    Cons

No free lunch everyday. Free lunch everyday would be GREAT & AWSM.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let's have free lunch everyday please.

I worked at Rovi full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Rovi's Santa Clara office is a healthy work environment. Competitive salary & benefit packages, flexible work schedules, and typically kind co-workers.

    Cons

The company has recently been described as a patent troll in the press, and although they are not the worst offender out there, Rovi has earned that reputation. (This may be considered a "Pro" if you are a Patent Attorney looking for steady work.)

I have been working at Rovi full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Rovi is a very relaxed environment where people come and go as they please. Dress is completely casual. The pay is fantastic and there are lots of company competitions and challenges with cash and other prizes.

    Cons

There have been company-wide layoffs every other month since I've worked here. There doesn't seem to be a lot of upward growth and the only way to get ahead is to leave the company. The product isn't something that I'm personally passionate about.

I worked at Rovi full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Rovi has a very flexible work environment with a great work/life balance. The pay and benefits are great and they have very talented people working for them. Innovation is emphasized and there is incentive for everybody to get involved. Over all a good place to work.

    Cons

The company seems to have lost its identity. In trying to recreate it by focusing on its core they may lose the ability to innovate through synergy with existing assets.

I have been working at Rovi

    Pros

These first two months at Rovi have far surpassed my hopes for the next phase of my career: great people, great culture and great work/life balance. Rovi has competitive pay/benefits, and the company is committed to its strategy. I'm especially impressed by its focus on innovation and the fact that every employee plays a part. So far, Rovi is definitely a great place to work.

    Cons

More than 25 offices globally can make it hard to connect with coworkers and the culture in general.

I worked at Rovi full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Rewarding and challenging work for those willing to work hard and not accept failure as an option.

    Cons

Short and long term planning for product and engineering teams is a failure at Rovi. The company as a whole does not respect/follow the agile/scrum process with a prioritized back-log.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in product and engineering positions. Eliminate many of the sales and management positions so you can do work rather than just talk about. Don't sell what isn't built!
