I worked at Royal Bank of Canada

    Pros

The "Goldman" of Canada. Strong bank who avoided the problem of others. Second tier in terms of getting larger investment banking deals. People are friendly.

    Cons

Base salary and bonuses are below the street. Perhaps too risk adverse. Employees are not very interactive. Management oftent content and lacks innovation.

I have been working at Royal Bank of Canada

    Pros

stable financials, significant growth and opportunity if culture can be navigated successfully.

    Cons

no cohesive culture in the US and regions operate in silos, which can be frustrating. ambition and drive not highly valued attributes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

more communication with employees - formal and informal.
develop a core cultural message to deliver for new hires outside of canada.

I worked at Royal Bank of Canada as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

Great co-workers (for the most part), many great opportunities to learn, great initial training program and a decent rewards program.

    Cons

High sales expectations of tellers, some management techniques are questionable (again, individually based observation), incentives and branch contests (between employees) viewed as biased.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A more varied approach to "coaching" may have an overall greater impact on current employees. Not everyone learns the same way, so it is rather difficult to understand only having one teaching style for all. A little more attention to how the individual branches are being run may be a good idea as well.

I have been working at Royal Bank of Canada as a contractor for more than 3 years

    Pros

This is very stable and reputable company with big name.
    I.e really BIG NAME
Everything is following procedures and culture rules.

    Cons

Decision making process is very slow. People get used to wait for ages when they requests will be done.
    Plans are jeopardized.
Commitments are not broken officially. Every delay has an explanation. But it is so common that I am surprised how this company can compete on the market.
Overstuffing. Duplication of tasks and activities.
Rarely somebody bored to optimize a working process or procedure. Especially if somebody will loose job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of 50% of activities. They are not necessary.
Learn best lessons from startup culture.
