    Pros

Here I work in an international and constantly changing environment. There is nowhere on land I would have been able to gain the experience in dealing with high-stress situations, or how to diplomatically interact with people from so many different cultures. After a few years on ships, dealing with anything on land is cake.

    Cons

The company has an excellent pipeline and development program, which is great for moving within the company. However, while they support people growing, there is a very clear ceiling at the middle management level. They want people to become supervisors, but for senior management, they regularly hire from outside the company and are reticent to promote from within above a certain point.

    Advice to Management

Be more supportive of middle management who are ambitious to move forward within the company, more leadership development programs to your current supervisors rather than continually hiring from the outside.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

High energy Travel Benefits Many opportunities to move up and around the company Training opportunities

    Cons

Low pay for the amount of time and effort put in to the job Long hours with little appreciation top heavy

    Advice to Management

Hire within from qualified, loyal employees. Give them the opportunity. Cease the practice of "letting people go" due to their age.

I worked at Royal Caribbean Cruises (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Wonderful company who truly cares about their employees overall. I would recommend this company to anyone interested in travelling the world and meet some beautiful people.

    Cons

Very little or no time off and long hours. If you do not believe that delivering a premium product to Guests will be your number one priority then you will not be happy in any position. I did and stayed over thirteen years.

    Advice to Management

Please shorten contracts for crew. 10 months is too long to be away from families. Shorter contracts with stricter hiring practices would attract the best in the industry. I would also suggest that Senior Level Managers receive stronger reviews and accountability for their Leadership skills. Good people do not leave bad companies, they leave bad managers!

I worked at Royal Caribbean Cruises as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Working onboard allows you to visit new places around the world and meet new people of all different nationalities and walks of life.

    Cons

Difficult to be away from family and friends during holidays. Takes getting used working for months on end without a day off.

    Advice to Management

Take more time to interact with crew and participate in crew activities. Advocate other activities outside of crew parties that involve cultural emersion and interaction by taking advantage of local ports of call.
