    Pros

    Had some of the best times here with outstanding colleagues and very knowledgable people - good community spirit and advanced in technology.

    Cons

    After HR screwup on visa's and broken promises, and 13 years of service, Shell abondoned me and my family overseas via a teleconference ! ......management have no morals and do not care one iota about their staff, which is why good managers are very short-lived in Shell before moving on.

    Advice to Management

    Remember that your staff are the best asset in your organisation - that inlcudes the extended family that support the working partner whom travels the globe to support the business.

    Pros

    The name, Shell. The name opens many doors and impresses.

    Cons

    Shell has a new fatigue policy for some reason. No other chemical company has such a policy and it is crazy. No one likes it and no one wants it. I'm not even sure if management is a fan of it. Shell has proven time and time again that it wants to be the best. But by being the best they have to try every outlandish and unproven idea and employees pay the price for it. Unfortunately, this has caused a bad vibe/opinion of Shell.

    Advice to Management

    Improve training for one thing. All Shell Deer Park wants is warm bodies. Even on the control board. The control board is manned by management approved individuals. And all they want is yes men. In the event of a full-blown crisis, we will not have the experience or the know-how to handle a situation. Especially in the next few years when the real operators retire.

    Pros

    Excellent compensation, nice facilities, plenty of work to do.

    Cons

    Long term perm employee's do little work, and survive by hiring and then firing contractors blaming the lack of accoplishments on them.

    Advice to Management

    The PMO "PDF" framework is overworked, cumbersome and ineffcient. Hire proffesional Project managers that know what they are doing.

    Lots of Hours Break whenever you choose

    Pros

    Weekly Pay. Part time available so not required to always work full time. Manager on site every shift.

    Cons

    Owner of that particular franchise was callous. They made me work overnight alone. I had to serve, re stock, take deliveries, not let people in...but let police in...and delivery men...the newspaper man...then customer would walk in and id get shouted at. Then told I wasn't bringing anything to the company over the phone....kept checking CCTV to make sure I didn't stop moving. Chaos on the night shift.... not allowed to leave premises even on a break as no One else was there to keep eye on the till. So no cigarette breaks AT ALL. Pay was CASH in hand..ALWAYS wrong & sometimes late. If next person due for their morning shift was late you'd have no choice but to stay there & continue to work until they arrived. Other staff were favored and allowed to leave early...take longer breaks and to stand around doing nothing whilst over were constantly monitored. Uniforms were second hand and did not fit correctly...still made to wear them even if they looked inappropriate. Other members said they felt bullied by management. Dis organised....out of date food left on shelves: orders given my management. AVOID this company at any costs!!! WORST employment I have ever had...after 10 years experience in retail...they told me I was doing it all wrong and that I had nothing to offer the company. I resigned before giving them the chance to sack me.

    Advice to Management

    Take a closer look at your franchise owners..... ESP in Staffordshire.

    Pros

    Negligible work hours, dont have to apply your head to work here

    Cons

    Terrible HR, payroll systems, they are trying to cash in on the International Shell brand

    Look into your HR systems

    Pros

    Only for the Corporate Executives -Good travelling policies -Good Increment -Good Benefits (by spending company's money through Corporate cards)

    Cons

    As Ops - Decisions made are painfully slow and are not consistent at different levels - Promotions requires Written Test, Oral Test and even Simulated Test ( Singapore only!!! There's no guarantee you will pass) - Rewards are pathetic for Ops (as good as none) - Cost cutting are always on OPs level, Corporate spend like mad

    Advice to Management

    Reward those who made the product safely for the company's bottom line. Review ur travelling policy to cut cost (which can go to Ops to make everyone happy) Ops are suffering from Low Pay and High Work load with policies that make the load even heavier.

    Pros

    Many exiting non-work related activite with loads of food Opportunity to move role within 2 to 4 years Good bonus, but not as good as core busines Subsidiary or Shell group,

    Bad management Unfairness around the company Employees with good network takes advantage and become free rider and does not make contribution, always trying to find the easy way out Good employees are negleted

    Advice to Management

    Monitor your staffs, treat them fairly, appreciate the good ones & and manage the bad ones Managerial levels lead by example, get their hands dirty
