    Pros

Cool people to work with so far...they seem very helpful.
I can lots of potential in the type of projects and engagements I can be involved in.

    Cons

There are sometimes steps and processes that you must go through to get simple things approved.
It would be nice if it moved faster at times.

    Pros

Most people view tax compliance as boring and tedious, but Ryan makes the tax environment much more interesting. Learning about each client will teach you a little bit about many different industries. Each client and state also brings up different issues, which causes you to research specific case by case issues - rather than doing the same thing every day. The flexible work environment is great.

    Cons

There are some deadlines that cause you to work long hours. Since everything is results driven, you are encouraged by managers to work long hours into the evenings, on occasion.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Encourage team leaders and managers to allow their team members to use the myRyan work environment more freely. Many team members feel guilty about working less than 9-10 hour days.

I have been working at Ryan, LLC full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Ryan offers an innovate flexible work environment that focuses on results over face time. It truly is innovative because it allows you to avoid taking PTO for common issues that may keep you from working in the office. Instead of using PTO while waiting on the cable guy or repairman, you're able to work from home as the firm provides you with the necessary resources to accomplish most tasks from anywhere.

Another great thing about Ryan, is that it provides a framework in which the employee has control of their our own professional growth. The firm is constantly looking to promote from within, and provides opportunities for employees to change offices or even practices. As the firm continues to grow new practices seem to sprout up every other month.

    Cons

A downside to all of the workplace freedom is that there is an unrealistic expectation, at times from management, of being available 24/7. This creates issues with employees burning out from working what feels to them as nonstop.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be mindful of people's downtime. Creating an environment of expected 24/7 availability could ruin everything that is great about the firm and its unique approaches to the work/life balance.

    Pros

The flexibility and home/work balance at Ryan is unrivaled. I also appreciate the hard work of management. I trust that they are looking out for the employees and the future of the company. I trust them to make good business decisions when growing the company as well. I feel blessed to be part of a company that is growing, making record profits, serving our communities, and making a work/life balance easier for its employees.

    Cons

The downside about working at Ryan has always been the benchmark that prevented employees from raises and promotions if their teams were not making money. The recent changes to the policy seem that they may have cleared up this problem.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do more to encourage members of teams who do not bring in high revenues. Help these teams meet benchmarks by distributing projects better.

    Pros

The offer by the company to allow us to telecommute and work on our own schedule is great!
The base salary is generally competitive.
There are lots of unique training opportunities.
All levels of management, while being very critical of work product, make themselves available to the staff. This isn't one of those firms where it is taboo for the lower level staff and management to approach or be approached by the firm principals and management to discuss issues, opinions, and other relevant matters.
The company's top management frequently requests input from all employees and frequently take action with consideration given to such feedback.
The firm encourages, but does not require, charitable giving and activities.
The company has a great IT department, central receptionists, and other great departments to provide the consulting staff with more time to earn.

    Cons

The ability by the employee to effectively telecommute and guiltlessly work on his/her own schedule is not always easy to accomplish! While policy permits and encourages it, the workload often makes it impractical. The result can easily be only having a week or two off per year, aside from normally recognized holidays themselves.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider changing the Consultant compensation structure to be a 10-20% higher base salary and remove the fee percentage.
Consider a second monitor to be a standard piece of equipment, rather than something which requires special approval.

    Pros

Ryan provides employees with ample flexibility regarding when and where to work. Ryan continues to grow and succeed financially; it is a reliable place of employment. Ryan provides multiple opportunities for professional growth and career advancement. Ryan is working actively to address needs for change as it grows.

    Cons

The workload and immediate expectations can be stifling at times. Decision making authority is too limited, which creates too many time-consuming required levels of approval. Ryan is experiencing growing pains that are normal, but will need to place more trust in leadership at different levels throughout the organization.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Place more trust in and decision making authority across mid to upper level management.

I have been working at Ryan, LLC as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

My manager immediately involved me in the current project my team was working on allowing me to contribute material work even as an intern. I also had the opportunit to utilize MyRyan a couple of time to work from home when needed.

    Cons

A few assignments could have been explained more thoroughly

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give more detailed instructions to new hires/interns. It may take more time but will pay off in the end when you don't have to make several passes of corrections.

I have been working at Ryan, LLC as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Ryan really spends the time to ensure you are getting the right type of training. The flexible work environement is really great for full time employees. The north dallas office location is much nicer than most of the other big accounting firms that have to go to downtown dallas for work. As an intern they really make sure to treat you as a regular staff member. I was given the responsibility that a consultant would be given and it was obvious my manager cared about my development.

    Cons

Management can forget at times that we are interns, and they need to explain complicated issues with us in a way thats understandable. Pay is not as much as Big four accounting.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure you are explaining tasks clearly and they 'why' not just the 'how'
