Try calming down your employees and start drug testing then you will have an excellent staff!

  5. Unappreciated.

    I worked at Ryan's

    Pros

Plenty of work to be done, jobs opening up at the time. Servers and hourly employees bust their butts to do a good job.

    Cons

This company treats its employees terribly. They pay next to nothing and work them to the bone, but keep their hours under the limit for health care. They do not know how to create a schedule to use their employees effectively and end up short staffed or with someone who is trained on something else trying to wing it. The managers are working 70 hour weeks which creates an atmosphere of tension and exhaustion. They want their employees to put the company before all else, family included. This is not a company that I want to patronize. No input from the employees is taken into consideration and they continue to do things inefficiently and ineffectively. This company needs a serious attitude adjustment if it wants to survive. I believe that a majority of the servers and cooks are working their butts off to survive and provide for themselves and their families while being treated poorly, as well as lied to, by the corporate office. A company should care about its employees well being, and this company had demonstrated definitively to lack any compassion for them. I hope anyone who reads this within the company will start to take heed to the suggestions of the valuable members they have managed to attract and will make the necessary changes in order to become a successful culture instead of a meat grinder for hourly workers and managers who have been put through the wringer with little sympathy.

    Advice to Management

Start to appreciate your employees and treat them like humans, not pawns to make you money. Work them reasonable hours and learn that your employ is not equivalent to God and you should never ask someone to put a company before themselves.

    Pros

benefits - can't think of anything else

    Cons

long long hours - stores greatly understaffed - very unstable in upper management - had 8 different supervisors in 11 years - no quality of life. Continually cutting labor to put a few more dollars on the bottom line, then expect to be able to take care of customers and keep the big stores clean. Not recommended at all.

    Advice to Management

    More concerned about your people

    Pros

I gained skills as a leader and stayed committed to customer service and working hard. The training experience was great. I formed a lot of great working relationships with many wonderful people whom I still maintain friendships with.

    Cons

Insane customers, insane management, insane hours. Do it for the money and then run AY screaming. Awful company!

    Advice to Management

Recognize teams for their efforts, not by adding to an already excessive workload. Treat them like people with lives

    Pros

The main thing I like about working for Ryan's is that they offer insurance packages to all employees for the first day. The packages are reasonably priced for the benefits received.

    Cons

Management is the only down side I have found so far. I love the business but when you have people over you who have no clue it makes for a bad environment.

    Advice to Management

Management training for Ryan's needs to be more thorough and not based so much on seniority as ability. I have seen people who have no clue get promoted because they have been there for 3 years while someone who has only been there a few weeks can do every job in the store and has management experience gets walked all over like a rug.
