I have been working at Ryan's full-time for more than a year

    Pros

great customer base, good food and plenty of challenges to keep work interesting, great training program, many employees have over 5 years with company

    Cons

constantly being used as a "labor saver", unrealistic goals and expectations from upper management, working christmas and very long hours

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

show mid level and lower level management some respect and treat them like people too, show recognition for job well done, let employees work their shifts

    I worked at Ryan's full-time

    Pros

The base pay for managers was good

    Cons

Brutal working hours. Many times working with only 2 managers on staff with no support from Corp. Labor allowances are so low store managers are slotted in a staff position during every meal period

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Understand that unhappy store team means unhappy guest experiences. Low wages, short weekly hours and double duties does not allow staff to properly f
give the guest the atmosphere to enjoy their dinners.

I have been working at Ryan's full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Pay and benefits were not that bad although lower then the industry average.

    Cons

Upper Management has so much work to do, they walk around with blinders on refusing to admit that there are serious food safety and sanitation issues. Everyone runs around spastic only when the AD shows up. If you blow the whistle all managers know you will get black balled. Food safety is at risk very scary in Greenville SC. If a manager does try to fix it they get ran off for not agreeing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company has recipes and sanitation requirements for a reason. To protect the guest and employees from getting sick.. you should follow them instead of trying to RE-invent the system. Someone getting sick in no joking matter, all the employees already know if they eat the food they will get diareaha. Shame on you and your AD for allowing this to get this out of control.

I have been working at Ryan's

    Pros

The money (servers only) is very good. I can't compete with it. If I made less, I would definitely be somewhere else though. It's a good place to go if you are ok with everyone knowing everything about you.

    Cons

Management is by far the worst problem. Very little positive feedback. Incompetency to the fullest. The hot bars never have food on them and there are always so many complaints. Very silly rules that we have to follow as well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put less effort into making things difficult for everyone, and start working on issues that really matter. Such as the rolls. Ice machines, and dishwashing machine. New uniforms. Tell people when you change their schedules. And bring back complimentary coffee. Taking that away really killed a lot of business. Also, to go cups are needed.

I have been working at Ryan's

    Pros

Pays well, and room for advancement. They offer a competitive benefits and PTO package most AD's are very fair to work with.

    Cons

Understaffed, 4 GM's for 8 stores; two stores have three managers, five have two and one has one. This has been an issue for over three years

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire managers to run store properly as well as to offer a quality of life for managers. Give managers more notice about changes: menu and marketing

    I worked at Ryan's

    Pros

The benefits were by far the best in the business. Great place to work if you enjoy a very fast non-stop pace. Great free food for managers.

    Cons

Managers work very long hours. On some occasions work 16 hour days and paid low salary ($34,000). Senior managers require non-stop paperwork to be filled out giving little time to check in with guest and deal with employee's problems. If any part of paperwork not filled out then bonuses are denied. Hourly employees paid very little causing low morale.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior Management critized staff constantly with no positive reinforcement or constructive criticism. They set unreachable goals which also killed morale.

    Pros

    The stores close at 9.

    Cons

Upper management asks for unrealistic results.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't expect miracles from your managers and remember they deserve to have a life outside of work.

I have been working at Ryan's

    Pros

We're family. Most of us have been here long enough to become grandparents together. Our regular customers are part of our family also.

    Cons

Insurance sucks! Benefits for long-term employees are non-existent. They force waitresses to clean chair legs and window blinds for 2.13 an hour. Don't have enough equipment, like glasses, silverware.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop telling us what to do, we already know. You spend so much time in the office watching us on the cameras, why don't you deal with the people who aren't doing what they're supposed to? I smoke, but I also do my job as opposed to some who don't smoke but also don't do what they're supposed to do. Upper management treats us like peons, they're too good to talk to us. We've been here forever, why don't you care about our feedback? And you need to remember we are not slave labor, we choose to work here and would appreciate some appreciation. Honestly, when it comes down to company/employee relationships, this is the worst company I have ever worked for. This company is completely, totally about the dollar.
