    Pros

great benefits, great people, good work, seemingly stable

    Cons

layoffs happen, location limits options when they do. Advice for others - - treat this like any other large CPG, don't buy the 'family company' line, you are a cog in the machine, I got fooled.

    Pros

    Good people and compensation
    Sustainability efforts
    Solid brands and marketing
    CEO leadership and transparency

    Cons

Despite high level transparency it appears as though middle level management is losing decision making power on HR related decisions
Lack of clear job performance objectives
Job instability - behind the scenes talk does not always match publicly communicated internal messaging as to direction of role/company

    Advice to Management

Need to establish measurable and tangible objectives for each employee at onset of role(s).
Get to know your employees and strategically invest in leveraging their strengths and in-house business knowledge
Make decisions and stick with them; need leadership in times of ambiguity

    Cons

Recent large layoffs. A quota rating systems. A system that ensures someone is always getting forced out.

    Pros

Strong brands, good place to learn the industry and if you're young and MOBILE in sales then there are opportunities for you here.

The company is going through a lot of change right now, I think it will take several years for all the kinks to be to be worked out from the last restructure but I do believe SCJ will be in a better place moving forward as a result of the changes.

    Cons

Taking away work from home benefits unless you live over 20 miles from office. Taking away company cars for lower level employees (analyst level). Recently demoted several positions along with a restructure.

If you're experienced in sales and come here it's going to be tough to grow - there is not much movement for upper level account management because people don't want to move. Company is trying to change this but it's tough. Beware of joining customer marketing with the promise to be promoted out of the category sales management position. There is POTENTIAL to be promoted out of that role, but I think too many people join the company and think that it's a guarantee they will be promoted in a few years. In reality, very few people get promoted out of that job, you'll most likely take a lateral move to an account team once something opens up (which is not often). I see lots of people get "stuck" in customer marketing for years longer than they intend to. Also many external employees join the company in sales first through customer marketing, that's because not many internal candidates want to join the department....

Moving toward "open work space" environment - could be a pro or con depending on your work style.

Upper management does not understand workload levels of employees - sales teams are unbalanced with some teams having way too many people without much work to do and other teams barely able to get by with a team of 2.

Management hiring a lot of external talent which gives the impression that management does not think current employees have strong capabilities.

Company going through a culture change after a restructure - employee morale is very low. It appears management knows morale is low, but isn't doing much about it?

    Pros

Family company. Has health fitness centers, great cafe. Offers competitive benefits. Has child care center. A lot of opportunity does exist in the company to make a difference.

    Cons

Moving away from previous culture to stay more competitive....more like other companies. As reported in the news, many employees are being let go as company transforms itself. Moving more towards a performance orientated culture which can affect work life balance.

    Advice to Management

    Value employees

    Pros

Telecommuting, flex-scheduling, summer hours, vacation buy-back

    Cons

"type-casting"...once you excel at something it's near impossible to break out of that role
Management does little to hold people accountable. They just let people slide because they have worked there a long time.

    Cons

The company is going through a transformation which is not being managed well so internal quality of service has been decreasing.

    Advice to Management

Do not let new hires make all decisions without involving current/older employees. These are valuable resources who know the business well.
