Still a great place to work

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Racine, WI

I have been working at S.C. Johnson full-time for more than 10 years

ProsStable, secure employment (until recent layoffs). Not THE best (no one can afford that), but still among the best companies to work for.

ConsTries to recruit diversely, but many people enticed to come here are not prepared for weather extremes of Upper Midwest, Wisconsin politics & taxes, distance from family, perceived conservative culture ( it's not really that conservative) --so they leave, creating expensive employee turnover.

Advice to Senior ManagementTends to try too many new things that don't pan out or are me-toos. Products are often contributing to throwaway economy (many are not recyclable) while company is trying to be green (uses wind energy, etc.). Rushes to launch something and then optimizes product later-- maybe too late.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

I worked at S.C. Johnson

ProsVery good benefits and salary. Employees all seem to get along as well as a very easygoing workplace.

ConsIn order to get desired promotions you need to have relationships with the right people. Sometimes have to travel quite often.

Good Company that desreve to be better

Operations Manager (Former Employee)
Cairo, GA

I worked at S.C. Johnson full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGood working environment, with vast heritage and extreme honorable values ,well educated & selected people, high exposure to many aspects of business, lots of learning and education, Global platform does have lots of accumulated experience & practices over the years , especially in the operations & manufacturing side, challenging to the max of the limits.

ConsLots of directions , people are so much busy with objectives they have and cannot effectively follow, pressure is high to the extent that work life balance is not maintained to the set standards,
This we believe is an awesome tool that is not fully committed to, Resources & retention are an issues, succession plans does not work to what it should be.

Advice to Senior ManagementStick back more to the family values

Secure company.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Racine, WI

I have been working at S.C. Johnson full-time for more than 5 years

ProsEmployee discount, profit sharing and profit sharing break. Flexible work schedule and telecommuting opportunities for office employees with the right manager (not available in all departments).

ConsLittle, if any, room for career growth unless you are visible to the right people. Inconsistent feedback with regards to promotional opportunities. If you have the education you will be told you lack internal experience and if you have internal experience you will be told you lack education. However, depending on the employee, you could have both and still not be properly compensated for your achievements.

Advice to Senior ManagementRecognize the skills of people within the organization and re-evaluate that you have the right people doing the right jobs. It isn't always necessary to utilize retirees as consultants if the current employees are utilized to their full potential.

SCJ Internship

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at S.C. Johnson as an intern for less than a year

ProsInterns get great access to upper level management as part of the program's objective to give you good exposure to the company's culture

ConsThe assessment process they use to evaluate employees could be updated to capture more nuance in performance

– I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
