    I worked at S.C. Johnson full-time

    Pros

As far as big companies go, SCJ treats their people better than most

    Cons

Leadership can be a bit overly conservative at times. Very high Brand Manager turnover is single biggest contributor to extraordinarily long new product development cycles.

I have been working at S.C. Johnson full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people and ability to get things done with minimal red tape.

    Cons

Terrible location for attracting and keeping talent. Work/life balance is consistently poor. Lots of uncertainty over direction of IT and expectations. Outsourcing has been a real challenge.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to your employee morale as there is a lot of disatisfaction which is causing really good people to look elsewhere.

I worked at S.C. Johnson full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Many job openings now. Reasonable salaries & benefits, especially for people with children-- insurance, maternity & paternity leave, childcare, summer daycamp, swimming lessons & recreational swimming, exercise, sports & other activities.

    Cons

Fast pace of change in past few years, many new systems & procedures, loss of many experienced employees due to involuntary layoffs as well as voluntary departures & retirements.

    Advice to Management

Coach & develop. Support your staff. Listen to them. Take responsibility for problems, which are often due to inexperienced employees or not enough staff.

I have been working at S.C. Johnson full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Intelligent and hard working people who care about their results and impact on others.

    Cons

Changing environment that now values outside hires over internal candidates, limiting longer term employees opportunity to grow. The current unspoken message is that employees that have been with SCJ for a while are no longer of value and will likely be mostly exited from the company in the next 1-3 years.

    Advice to Management

Recommend considering the institutional knowledge, experience and capabilities of your longer term employees as an asset to the company. Engage in a more balanced approach to talent management by hiring some people from the outside, while inspiring and promoting the longer term employees that are loyal and performing.
