Current Employee – been working at S.C. Johnson full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Has received numerous & repeated "Best Places to Work" recognition worldwide, benchmarked against similar companies, also environmentally & socially conscious and award-winning. Publishes product ingredients on website. Privately held, has employee profit sharing. Global company, has opportunities for travel or rotations to positions wordwide.
Cons – May not be THE best place to work (but still among the best). Self insured health insurance plans have pluses & minuses. Average vacation policies.

Former Employee – worked at S.C. Johnson as an intern for less than a year
Pros – Interns get great access to upper level management as part of the program's objective to give you good exposure to the company's culture
Cons – The assessment process they use to evaluate employees could be updated to capture more nuance in performance
– I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Current Employee – been working at S.C. Johnson full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – If you work for this company you need to be ready to develop strong relationships in order to advance. Much of the promotion and advancement within is determined by who your sponsors are and who will go out on a limb for you. This is good if you are someone who works well in teams.
Cons – Pretty much the same as the Pros but if you are not someone who likes to develop these relationships then it might be difficult to do well there. And, it seems that a lot of the work is done in LONG, over scheduled meetings!

Former Employee – worked at S.C. Johnson full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Values and the style of people who work there. The family feeling of this comes across well and is now hardened up with astute management. Make good acquistions every few years of good brands.
Cons – A bit traditional at times. Maybe slower to market than it could be and less risk.
Advice to Senior Management – Be more aggressive.

Former Employee – worked at S.C. Johnson full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – flexible work schedule, promotion of work life balance, fitness centers, on-site yoga, great on site food, childcare center
Cons – very close knit, your family life and work life blur, Racine/ Milwaukee is not that great of a location to live. The pollution is not good for your health.

Current Employee – been working at S.C. Johnson full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – SC Johnson has been a family owned company for 5 generations and the current CEO (great great grandson of the founder) is looking to remove the old nepotism habits and run the company the way a good company is run.
Cons – Lots of old habits - second-guessing manager's decisions, not relying on data to make decisions.
Advice to Senior Management – Put people into positions to make decisions with clear data and hold them accountable to the intent of their decisions, no the outcome.

Current Employee – been working at S.C. Johnson
Pros – Overall it's a great place to work. The work is challenging and there are no lack of resources to do your job well. Most managers treat employees fairly and the benefits can't be beat. Fisk goes out of his way to do small things to show appreciation like impromptu BBQ's in the summer.
Cons – The promotional opportunities in RD&E are slim once you've hit Sr. Research Engineer. People have worked here a long time (if not thier whole career) and don't realize how truly good they have it here. An outsider might get frustrated hearing people complain about non-issues. Management is pretty far removed from their subordinates.
Advice to Senior Management – Management needs to develop a better defined career path to keep people engaged. They also need to dedicate more ttime to their employees (beyond a 1hr general)

Former Employee – worked at S.C. Johnson
Pros – Fair salary with great benefit programs which includes cash and defered bonus, 401K, pension, Christmas week off and so on. People are usually nice to work with.
Cons – Limited growth opportunity within the company for the people with experience and skills like me. Some mid-level management may be too satisfied with their knowledge and experience.
Advice to Senior Management – Management can be more open and learn from the best in the industry. Job is normally more secure in SC Johnson, therefore people may not learn more as elsewhere.
