    Pros

When first employed, I suggested that I could give brown bag seminars in my career field to interest other SAIC employees in getting certified for a lateral career move. Management approved my proposal and supported acquisition of training materials for it. After that, three employees made the lateral move, proving the concept.

    Cons

The switch to Leidos overshadowed continuation of creative efforts at corporate growth and development.

    Advice to Management

Be able to walk and chew gum at the same time. Keep up the tradition of forward thinking.

    Cons

Working on a government contract can be a bit stressful when you don't know what is going on with the contract and no it is hard to show how good of a worker you our when your boss is a gov employee and you rarely see your SAIC Manager.

Overall a very positive experience. Lay-off process needs to be addressed as well as internal transfers.

    Pros

Excellent benefits. Family friendly. Time off as needed was never an issue. Lower management looked out for their people as best they could.

    Cons

Poor communication between management and employees. Career path is convoluted at best. Told several times if I received a particular certification it would boost my career only to have the position taken away and given to a new hire. Highly driven by profit margins.

    Advice to Management

Stay in touch with your people.

    Pros

Great people at all levels, many opportunities to advance your career and move to other locations. Many chances to travel and help build new business. They take care of their people.

    Cons

Most everything is by contract unless you are at the corporate level. If you lose the rearward on a contract, they may not be able to find an opening for you.

    Pros

Great people. Great benefits. They try to provide job security in a tough, contract-based atmosphere.

    Cons

Sometimes the tradeoff between job security and reduced compensation/reduced hours. But I think that is more about our current federal government needing to reduce costs.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you do. Taking care of the people at client sites is what gives SAIC an edge over other contractors.

    Pros

The company goes out of their way to help their employees maintain their technical edge and explore new opportunities of learning for career growth.

    Cons

Many positions within the internal job board require DoD security clearance and most of the hiring managers aren't willing to sponsor. The company would have a greater retention policy if they would change this one thing.

    Advice to Management

Work with your recruiters and hiring managers to give them the flexibility to sponsor current employees to obtain or upgrade their security clearance! (They're not that expensive in the scope of things!)

    Pros

Good benefits, great pay, great people

    Cons

Need to provide "charm school" training to the managers on how to handle a layoff. My layoff seemed cold and indifferent. Communication was not clear on the severance package presented to me by my management. The employee web site is or was fuzzy in this area as well.

    Advice to Management

I was laid off due to budget cuts but yet the company posted some pretty hefty profits on the employee web site shortly after my layoff announcement. Kind of struck me sour. Also, I could have stayed in my prior position and still be employed but SAIC talked me into coming on board with them. Now I have no job. SAIC overall is a good company to work for.
