    Pros

    There were some gems of people that worked there. I really lucked out being able to work with some of the people there. Free catered breakfast or lunch once a week (before they silently got rid of it for some weeks) Unlimited vacation (only if your manager lets you)

    Cons

    It's taken a lot of restraint to not write a review here but I must share the truth. It was a really great place to be when I joined and I was truly happy as the people were one of a kind, nice, and generally pretty smart. I snapped out of my honeymoon phase after half a year when I started to find out that middle management was pretty much sucking money out of the company and a waste of resources. They are mostly selfish and don't care about employees progress or handle HR cases in a professional manner. Since I was lower on the totem pole, I wasn't taken seriously and talked down to by engineers. I saw full employee turnover rate and said goodbye to great coworkers and friends as they were fired or laid off while their managers weren't doing anything. Meanwhile the people that were left had to deal with the workload of the people that just left. They started hiring really talentless and lazy people because it was cheaper to cover up potholes instead of hiring great and brilliant people that could fix problems that weren't just surface level. When I started we owned the entire building and by the time I left, they laid off most of the company, SILENTLY, while the rest of the employees that were left had no idea that happened, and then eventually moved everyone into the first floor and basement as they couldn't afford rent for the rest of the building. As for all the "wonderful" perks, it happens rarely and the free Costco kindergarten snacks SUCK. I would have rather there be no snacks so the company could save money and some people would still have their jobs. All in all, HR is a joke, this is a fake company with no real or clear mission statement as it changes a few times a year. JUST DON'T BOTHER. PLEASE. This place put me and a few others into a depression. HR won't help you advance your career and does not care if your manager, like mine, was extremely verbally abusive ranging from sexist to racist comments on the daily.

    Advice to Management

    Just close up shop or be transparent with your employees. You guys keep changing the mission statement and if you really think you're "laser focused" with Tempest and the company's finances, I suggest thoroughly looking into the managers who are way overpaid, lazy slavedrivers who let their teams go that actually did all the work. You have it all backwards. P.S., Tempest still looks like a web designer's first college project.

    Pros

    Free food and free coffee.

    Cons

    Company does not know what it's doing, puts on a happy face with a lot of B.S. forced fun events and free food but has no concern for employees. Has flip-flopped repeatedly over the years, no one is safe.

    Pros

    Smart, creative, hard working loyal employees.

    Cons

    Vague & indirect management - managers communicate with assumptions, generalities & lack of direction. Does not: 1. Give constructive feedback in private. 2. Follow up on employee ideas. 3. Give frequent praise. 4. Support employee development. 5. Allow flexibility and realistic freedoms. 6. Communicate directly and specifically. 7. Demonstrate that you care. 8. Allow employees to share and shine. 9. Respect individual differences. 10. Admit it when you’re wrong.

    Pros

    Great vacation policy, good teammates, nice offices. Solid challenges to solve in an ever evolving environment.

    Cons

    Upper management is disconnected with the company and nobody seems to care that there is a sizable talent bleed and workers keep quitting. People are promoted for being buddies with the right people even though they are not right for the job. The management team is male heavy and many of them treat women in the company as if they are dumb. Upper management is mostly focused on blame games because the company has a reputation of laying off or firing their VPs and employees at the drop of a hat.

    Advice to Management

    Pay attention to who is actually doing good work. Stop promoting people because they are your drinking buddy. Do something about the continuous talent bleed. Appreciate the people that work hard for you even though you treat employees like they are expendable.

    Great Atmosphere, Awesome People, Great Benefits

    Leadership doesn't seem to care about their employees, I've seen entire teams laid off with less than a week's notice

    Pros

    Nice office, great teammates, amazing offices in San Francisco and New York, unlimited vacation, use of Google apps throughout pipeline.

    Cons

    Say Media does not give raises. The only way to increase your pay is to get a "promotion" or a title change which is incredibly difficult in a company that is continuously shrinking and shrinking and shrinking. I have watched many of my teammates be laid off in the name of failed business model after failed business model. The problem is that this company can not stick to one thing OR they do not know how to be profitable. A lot people here are inexperienced but hired because they will take a lower salary. Truthfully, I had a poor feeling from the minute I started and was right. Everything from on-boarding to the office vibe felt off. Next time, I will listen to my intuition.

    Pros

    They paid a great base salary.

    Cons

    The managers are completely unprofessional and play favorites. They have a "training" program each week that is more like a pop quiz session of who they can humiliate each week. They fire someone new almost every week. NO JOB SECURITY! For the record, I left before that could happen.

    Advice to Management

    Get new managers who have actual training.

    Pros

    Coddled if you are an Engineer, you don't have to be good at it.

    Cons

    Don't accept a job if you are a woman. They appraise them at different value than men, you will also be the first fired.

    Advice to Management

    Go public so you can be replaced.

    Pros

    Unlimited free diet coke in the fridge. Free lunch or breakfast one day a week. Convenient for the Caltrain station.

    Cons

    This company sells Intenet advertising. They are trying to turn into a web publisher, but plans for growth and acquision in that area are not working out. The company has found it easier to hire product managers than engineers, and the resulting empire building has resulted into engineering being split into too many small teams with unrealistic deadlines and often adversarial relationships between teams. The working environment is overcrowed and noisy. You need sound cancelling headphones to get anything done. Lip service is paid to Agile development, but in practice deadlines are set months in advance, often before detailed requirements are known.

    Advice to Management

    Scale back on the growth plans. Look for more off the shelf solutions instead of trying to reinvent the wheel - home grown solutions are not always better, but they are always more expensive. Look for someone interested in acquiring the company.

    Pros

    the people - nice and creative, they threw good parties

    Cons

    Bad management - didn't care much about the staff, poor leadership who didn't have strong relationships with high-level agency folks and only looked out for themselves. NO mentorship as most employees had no previous experience and provided no inspiration or knowledge. constantly changing their strategy.

    Advice to Management

    Take a closer look at the people and maybe do exit interviews???
