I worked at SGK full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Some employees are talented and willing to work as a team for the betterment of the corporation. Overall the benefits provided are fairly good although that seemed to be changing also.

    Cons

Unfortunately some of the key management personnel have personal agendas to prove how much better and smarter they are than anyone else. Management has become a good ole boys club and only those members are the ones whose knowledge and decisions are valued despite the fact that they are not the best at what they do. Their egos are so inflated that they have brought the company to the point where the company doesn't even respect it's clients. Management thinks they can tell their clients how to run their business as opposed to partnering with their clients to improve the economical environment for all concerned parties.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

WAKE UP. Remove your personal agendas. This is supposed to be a business and professional environment. Start getting in touch with your employees and listening to them. They are the ones that are in the trenches dealing with the client every day and truly understand the needs and desires of the clients.

I worked at SGK full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Some of the people were amazing.

    Cons

Management is horrible at this company, if you're not doing questionable things to get promoted, you will not get promoted. You get blamed for things you don't do and berated in front of other people and then when they find out it wasn't your fault, it's like nothing ever happened. They talk about people behind their backs as if they were in high school and treat their employees horrible. DO NOT WORK FOR THIS COMPANY!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The only advice I have is to fire all management, fire the worthless employees who come in for overtime and do nothing but sit there, and act as respectable companies do. JUST GROW UP!

I worked at SGK full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good people. Job was fun. Worked with great talent.

    Cons

Compensation. "Merit" increases do not match what you hear in reviews. Management has said that "you have hit your cap for salary, do not expect any more increases unless you change positions." Why risk loosing an employee who is good at their job and enjoys their job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Match the merit increase to the review. There is no incentive to work for this company. They are going to start to loose clients to their biggest competitor due to the loss of good talent if they continue this way. Don't throw 60 years of business in our face thanking employees for getting you there. Your actions speak louder than words. Show your appreciation in ways that count if you want another 60 years.

I worked at SGK full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Co-workers some of the best people around.

    Cons

All levels of management at this location have no people skills. Work being sent overseas, customers like SC Johnson don't know this. Layoffs all the time, they don't bother to reassign you or offer a different job, just slash workforce so management can get a bonus.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Running this company into the ground, as soon as Clarence W. Schawk dies, David is selling, if he doesn't go out of business first.

I have been working at SGK full-time for less than a year

    Pros

This company is such a scam, that I can not find a single positive thing to say about them.

    Cons

This company is so cheap! They lure you in at a day rate that is very reasonable and then slash the pay once convert to full-time. They offer health insurance that is outrageously expensive and doesn't actually cover anything. Performance reviews that don't result in anything more than paperwork. They do not offer raises,! No cost of living increases! No advancement! This place obviously doesn't care about it's employees and it is obvious on a daily basis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide your employees a competitive wage, health insurance that isn't a scam, cost of living increases, performance based raises and provide your employees with an intranet that works.

I worked at SGK full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good running equipment, free coffee, and popcorn on Thursday

    Cons

Layoffs every 6 months even when there is work. Skeleton crew and mandatory overtime. No raises, no promotions and it's a horrible toxic environment. Work is being outsourced overseas. Management does not care about your career, just get the work done faster. If your Salary watch out, get ready for 60 hour weeks with no compensation for the extra hours .

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Go back to treating employees as humans, give raises.

I worked at SGK full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Conveniently located in the heart of downtown Chicago.

    Cons

Poor management overall with the exception of a few talented individuals - due to lack of experience. Presenting skills are horrible during meetings and not effective at all. Some of the managers do not have people skills and have problems keeping confidential information to themselves. Managers have been promoted to their positions because of who they knew not based on merit or experience. Does not have an ad agency feeling at all compared to other agencies in the Chicago area.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire new managers - especially on the Kmart team.

I have been working at SGK

    Pros

Large global capacities with focus on technical expertise.

    Cons

Management was allowed to have spouses, relatives and close friends as direct reports. This was NOT conducive to a healthy work environment unless, of course you were a relative, spouse or close personal friend. These related employee's were protected at all costs no matter the mistakes that were costing the reputation of the company and profit margins that could have been increased instead of decreased.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look closely........anonymous polls may help but the problem may stem from the top up. Your company will continue to loose business when un-related employees are forced out.

I have been working at SGK

    Pros

The employees are really smart and know what they are doing. The staff is very talented and creative. The benefits package is also very good.

    Cons

Management does not have a clue what we do. Morale is very low and there are rarely ever any moments of celebration. Layoffs are frequent and we are never really told why, other than to save money. Compensation is way below average and the raises are non-existent. We are always told retaining employees and career advancement are a priority but since it never done, it is just lip service.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your people are your company. I know you need your clients but without your employees, you would not be who you are. Treat your people with more respect and really look at your compensation options. Reward your employees for their hard work and dedication. You will have a much happier and dedicated workforce for it.
