    I worked at SGK

    Pros

Excellent co-workers. Fun creative projects, always challenging and rewarding.

    Cons

However- work hard, not smart, seems to be their motto.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value your talent pool. Operators are not machines...they're creativity and vast skill sets are the product which you sell. Without them you would have no product. Reward them as you would your sales staff.

I have been working at SGK full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great co-workers. Although some days the hours can be long, there is no pressure to get in early the next day. The benefits are great.

    Cons

There doesn't seem to be much room for advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend a little time each day getting to know your staff.

I have been working at SGK full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Much freedom to be a self-directed individual. Very easy to have dialogue with management and implement changes if needed. Colleagues are fun, intelligent, and hard-working.

    Cons

Sometimes lack of direction, and communication. Often untrained in area of need, but expected to learn very quickly in a different discipline. Corporate is becoming increasingly like "Big Brother" requiring tests for salary reviews, and goal making to actually receive one. Very low morale concerning salaries and reinforcements- there none, which is discouraging after many lay offs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Appreciate your workers. Give them credit for making things run smoothly instead of farming it all to China and India. There is a big discrepancy in salary among some positions: we all work equally as hard to achieve our goals, salary should reflect that.

Current Employee - Account Supervisor in Chicago, IL

I have been working at SGK full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Company has locations worldwide, most with similar structures. Chicago locations have amazing photography and print production operations. This company offers a great start for any interested in the catalog and print marketing arenas.

    Cons

Poor executive involvement and hubris contribute to serious client and staff missteps. Very little room for advancement at locations with which I am familiar. Creative and Account staff feel restricted while Production staff is pressed hard.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees must be coached and developed—and given opportunities to grow and advance. Executives should listen to and recognize client needs; support staff who can proactively steward accounts.
