    Ever Changing Landscape

    Senior Client Coordinator (Current Employee)
    Des Plaines, IL

ProsChallenging work opportunity, great growth in career, no ceiling!

ConsPay does not change by much as you grow internally, but opportunity for experience is there.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire talented people and let them do their job, try to avoid micromanaging too much.

Very positive up to 2008, then only moderately positive.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Chicago, IL

ProsThe people that I work with are great. Great energy, enthusiasm and knowledge.

ConsGeographically diverse so there is some travel in some of the roles. Some uncertainly as to the future with the pending merger with MATW

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep listening to employees in the field. The best ideas come from there.

    Company in transition

    Technical (Current Employee)
    Chicago, IL

ProsSGK thought about getting into the services side of the industry way before competition

ConsIndustry is changing very fast, and due to its size, Schawk is not changing fast enough with it.

Advice to Senior ManagementStay nimble, listen to employees, listen to key customers.

ProsOpportunity for promotion has been there if you put for the effort and step up to take on added responsibility

ConsCompensation has not been consistent with market always and the company review process has not always been consistent across the board

    Lots of moving parts

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe company is a large global entity with a lot of opportunity if you are willing to relocate. There are a lot of facilities around the world.

If you are versatile you will never get bored.

There are quite a few different sections to Schawk - Agency related (Anthem!), Separations, Color Retouch, Photography, Prototyping and 3D Rendering, as well as SDS which is more involved with IT and approval software.

ConsPay increases are few and far between, you have to change positions or fight for some advancement before you see even a cost of living adjustment.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere is a disconnect of goals between financial drive and process drive. We sometimes get caught up in fiscal discussions and we don't improve our process or in order to improve our finances we add 17 steps to our process.

From LA to the 80's and back

    Graphic Designer (Current Employee)
    Los Angeles, CA

ProsPlenty of rooftop parking, flexible hours, plenty of water coolers, left alone to get work done, teamwork driven at times, the employees are friendly, which is weird cause most places treat freelancers like they are lepers. The location is questionable, but I like that its on this side of the 5 freeway.
They use a payment system that they immediately set you up with and they pay you quickly, within a week.
I come in, get my 8 hours, and get to go home. I love it.

ConsLighting by florescence, 80's drab layout. Weird small little pockets of offices and quite possibly a death trap if you don't know how to get out quickly. No one ever told me there was a kitchen till I was there for a month.

You're kind of brought in, left at your desk with work, then your on your own...how to get out, how to set up files, where to put them, how to get on the server, etc etc. I just recently figured out which printers are where.

There nearest place to eat is 5 min away by car, nothing good is walking distance.

There are like 5 different ways you have to log in your hours. kind of redundant.

Advice to Senior ManagementGreat job letting us do our work and explaining the job well. I never have to ask questions and even when its crazy and chaotic, they are calm and collected.

Good place to work, but can feel isolated at times

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Chicago, IL

ProsEveryone, no matter from what department, was very nice and willing to help. I never had a problem with the people I worked with and after I left I had connections from all the departments.

ConsAlthough everyone was nice, there was never any time to get to really get to know the people you were working with.

Advice to Senior ManagementSet aside company days where employees can just hang out and get to know each other. It will definitely boost the morale in the office.

ProsGreat work life balance and enjoyable clients to service. Well respected within the advertising industry and globally with potential clients.
