I have been working at SS&C full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits. Great work environment depending on who your manager is and if your team wants to help you or train you.

    Cons

No work life balance. It is a slave ship if you allow it to be. Managers and Seniors work on weekends and run reports till Am hours and then come in for regular work hours.

Make sure you get the position you want or don't take the job. Many people are promised 1st shift to get them to take 3rd shift and that never happens.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train new employees right away not when you feel like it. Having new people for 3-4 months before they learn anything is a huge waste of money and talent.

    I have been working at SS&C full-time

    Pros

Pay and benefits are ok, casual workplace, open space with many different business units. Exposure to many different clients, counter parties, and internally you will work with many different offices and people. Good place to start out or sit while you try to move on to something better. Good location and company continues to grow and add clients.

    Cons

Can be lots of turnover, uneven workload, upper management can be distant and only concerned about bottom line, rather than employees. Low incentives to be a high performer or have any ambitious goals other than a new job somewhere else.

I worked at SS&C full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Financial development experience. Go to learn about various investment options. Good tuition reimbursement benefits.

    Cons

No career growth, no chance to move up. All the setup was very political. the development process was not very organized. All those people who had designed the product had already left and probably for the right reasons.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give generous annual appraisals. People who work hard should be rewarded. They should be offered raise when they decide to leave.

I have been working at SS&C full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Health benefits, time off policy good. Casual dress, work at home okay for some departments.

    Cons

1 -Training not always consistent..have seen many attempts at training programs start & stop.
2- Company usually works with a "put out the fires" mentality..i.e addressing problems too late. Also they tend to rush out the front door after new clients and neglect existing ones. Both of these actions cause resources to be siphoned off from current clients/accounts which affects raises/bonuses as a department "didn't make their numbers" due to loss of existing clients/accounts.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Salaries are not always equitable for same positions. New employees usually brought in at higher salaries than existing employees. No information within company about salary ranges.

    I worked at SS&C full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Casual work environment, decent benefits, salary and time off. Though salary and time off was grandfathered for most employees prior to acquisition of SS&C. After acquisition for newer employees this was not as generous. The employees are what make the company. Most willing to help each other when needed.

    Cons

Not a 9 to 5 job, the norm is to work as they need you. Nights, weekends, holidays. If you leave prior to when they believe you should be working you will find out about it. Constant "Heads will roll" mentality if deliverable's and revenues not met. Very stressful work environment. No formal training for employees. Upper Management does not address talent

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

work-life balance needs to be better for employees. More needs to be done for employee morale and the work environment needs to be more positive from the top down.

I have been working at SS&C full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great health insurance, hands-off management approach--employees given decent amount of decision-making authority, flexible and casual working environment

    Cons

lack of strong company brand and identity; lack of employee development structure; management is not properly trained; promotions and career paths non-existent; lack of competitive salaries and bonuses; lack of company pride and firm-wide professionalism

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a company brand and structure that is cohesive, proud and professional--at all levels of the organization. Provide extensive management training and employee development opportunities.

    Pros

casual dress, decent benefits, they will take anyBODY to fill a seat.

    Cons

systems and technology slow, higher positions get stuck doing work for people who don't know what they are doing, no work life balance, set hours, no flex time. no discipline for delinquent workers…upper staff levels have to compensate for their inabilities. not many perks-free (gross) coffee, filtered water…that's it. Lunch room/cafeteria seating area is dated..most people eat at their desks or go out to get away. Solution to getting things done is overtime..work on the weekends, instead of hiring the appropriate, qualified staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

promote a more work life balance.

I have been working at SS&C full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The attire is casual, large company, great benefits/vacation days/health insurance. Company growth is expected to continue. Office is conveniently located right off 91.

    Cons

Very difficult to get promoted so many good employees leave for greener pastures. Current labor board dispute going on. No training provided, no classes to learn their software.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote the people you want to keep. Change the culture to make your employees happy. Be more team oriented. Make quick decisions to get rid of dead weight.
