Former Employee – worked at SSM Health Care full-time for more than a year
Pros – Great networking opportunity, worked with some very intellegent people. Was able to gain an incredible knowledge base in an agressive work environment.
Cons – The group that I lead was referred to as "a cancer that needed to be cut out" by our executive director. So much for employee engagement! Aggressive and unrealistic metrics from the top were met by manipulation/short cuts of procedures and surveys by the frontline employees.
Advice to Senior Management – I have been a successful manager at other organizations, my hiring manager (whom you fired several months before me) and director (whom you asked to leave) does not accurately reflect my performance as a manager.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Current Employee – been working at SSM Health Care
Pros – benefits
clean
lots of different clinical departments
shift options
cafeteria
central location decent parking
some great doctors
some good nurses there
good training department
Cons – They talk about the nurses as if they are nuns, praising their supposed willingness to angels of mercy with no needs of their own.
The reality is that they expect you to work sometimes dangerously under-staffed and not terribly well paid.
Lack of upper management support when something goes really wrong.
They will punish you for a WC injury unless you do your regular job despite orders against it and without complaining, and pretend they have not asked you to do so, but that you insist.
They are terrified of firing a minority staff person, so they insult the excellent minority staff by forcing them and non-minorities to work with them indefinitely, even if their performance is AWFUL or even dangerous. If you're managing this employee, it's hands-off or out YOU go.
Advice to Senior Management – Minority people who do their jobs well and have self-respect and a good work ethics are mortified about the bad ones, and insulted and angry that you let the bad ones run amok, no matter the particular minority.
"It's all about the money" and it shows.
Stop punishing people for WC injuries you put them at unfair risk to have via under staffing.
