    Best company ever.

Project Manager (Current Employee) Houston, TX

ProsVery family orientated company. They have excellent insurance, good vacation time, sick time, a scholarship fund for employee children and yearly raises

ConsTakes a long time for design changes to take affect. Not enough opportunities to earn extra money on commission or bonuses.

    Needs improvement

Prefer Not to Say (Current Employee) Saint Louis, MO

ProsCan't think of many. At least the paychecks do not bounce

ConsSadly the upper and middle management don't have a handle on daily operations. Apparently their idea of good management is piling on more work and responsibility without giving you the authority to accomplish your job. In addition pay and benefits are far below the competition. Your reward for working 70 hours a week? A bad review and no pay increase.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a good look at how a system works before changing it. Simply cutting staff and loading the work on the remaining personnel is a recipe for disaster over the long term.

Last resort company to work for...

Sales (Current Employee) Los Angeles, CA

ProsI'm not sure there are any pro's...most of the folks who are not in management are wonderful people, but management is a complete debacle with limited potential.

ConsNo opportunity for upward mobility, zero internal support and product development, minimal training or support for sales force, inexperienced leadership, unclear company direction, compensation packages that are unjustified compared to day-to-day duties and responsibilities, terrible work/life balance and unrealistic expectations. Only consider Steris if its a last resort and you've exhausted all other job searches.

    Advice to Senior ManagementQuit!

An interesting and sometimes challenging place to work

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Mentor, OH

ProsA good company with a solid balance sheet. It is a company where you can still make an impact because it is a realtively young company.

ConsNot a lot of movement at the higher levels and therefore there is opportunity up to a point. On the other hand it is a great place to learn.

Advice to Senior ManagementMore creativity is needed to develop and retain talent. It's too late to act after they tell you they are leaving.

    A great place to work

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Mentor, OH

ProsGreat corporate location in Mentor, Ohio; solid company; current executive management is leading the company in the right direction to optimize growth and profits.

ConsOver the past five years, the office "perks" have been minimized - nothing life-changing, but the new CEO cut back a lot of frivolous waste. As a shareholder, I must agree with this approach, but as an employee, it was sad to see some of the changes.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep doing what you're doing. I'm enjoying the security, stability, and profitability of our company, and I would recommend STERIS as a responsible employer.

It's a pretty good place to work

Field Service Representative (Current Employee) Salt Lake City, UT

ProsI have a company vehicle, laptop, cell phone, and I get to make my schedule. Benefits are pretty good. Depending on the manager it's like being your own boss.

ConsI don't feel that I get paid as much as I should. There is a disconnect between upper management and technician level. Upper management tends to look at the numbers almos exlusively rather than service that is provided. There is a real negative feeling in the engineering department that trickles down in their work. There aren't many places to expand and recieve significant promotions. I also like to work with people and I am often working alone in this job.

Advice to Senior ManagementI feel that their job can be very difficult and demanding and for the most part they are doing pretty good. However I think there are too many projects going on and not enough focus.

    Need A Steppingstone?

Field Service Representative (Current Employee) New York, NY

ProsExtremely diverse work environments (In Life Science division especially). Very technical work incorporating electrical, plumbing, and programming troubleshooting. Workers report directly to customer sites, no punching in and seeing your boss everyday! A company vehicle is provided and allowed for personal use. Cell phone, laptop, and air-card are also provided to be used on the job. STERIS is in every hospital in the country and in most laboratory applications. Roots of the company are over 140 years old. STERIS is a world leader in infection control technology. When the post office in Alexandria, VA was contaminated by anthrax spores, STERIS VHP technology was used to clean the facility. You deal intimately with customers, involved not only in maintenance, but in account management and parts requisition. It is almost like running your own business.

ConsYou do not get paid like you run your own business. All the knowledge that you are expected to have and acquire, you are not compensated fairly for it. Yes, you do get a vehicle and have a flexible schedule (a flexible schedule really means that when you are done with your service calls you can go home), but there is very little room for advancement and salary scales seem to be kept at Fort Knox. There are a lot of people that work at this company for over 20 years and less than 5. There are not too many in between. They either go to work for a customer, or leave the industry entirely. Both reasons are for more pay.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop worrying about cutting costs so much and get back to focusing on taking care of the customer. With happy, satisfied customers, the profit will come.
