I had a great internship in The Portland Group, which used to be part of STMicroelectronics at that time. There were a lot of great people to learn from and interesting challenging tasks.

    Cons

Company is not in its best shape for last few years, therefore there are limited career opportunities. Hopefully that would change in the future.

    Pros

Possibility to learn for at least 2 years. Depending on group you can find excellent people. Possibility to travel even extensively

    Cons

No meritocracy , none possibility to grow. Carrier opportunity just political defined.
    Low salary
    Top management absolutely inadequate.
    Abnormous size for marketing group

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Radical change, from top to medium management need. Offer real opportunity for each employee basing on meritocracy. Tasks ,owner must be better defined

Current Employee - Applications Engineer in Santa Clara, CA

    Pros

Good technical class of people to work with.

    Cons

Very poor management for North America Operation. Management from Geneva are completely disconnected from North America region. So growth and future are skeptical if you are located in this region.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not close sites by looking at financial numbers. Management must see the potential or capabilities of the product. Number will automatically increase when product will go to market in a larger volume. DO not hesitate to try new thing. Every companies is doing that now. Intel changed its face from tradiation Microprocessor to SOcs and tablets, nvidia started makinng CPU, Microsoft entered more and more into hardware so ST should think beyond its MEMS and microcontrollers.
