    Minneapolis, MN

ProsGreat coworkers and middle management, Workload gives vast experience, Minneapolis metro area offers corporate, supply chain and retail career opportunities

ConsNo work life balance, continue to re-org and downsize to squeeze more out of employees for less, expect top level performance for minimal pay

Advice to Senior ManagementRecognize that the talent will burn out and move on

    Reallignment

    Category Merchandiser (Current Employee)
    Pleasant Prairie, WI

ProsEnvironment is fast passed, however people are great to work with. There are opportunities to advance.

ConsLast few years have been taxing. Company did not back file positions when associates left causing extra work load and stress.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe transparent with your employees.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

New ownership has brought many tough and painful changes to rebuild this company.

    Warehouse Associate (Current Employee)
    Minneapolis, MN

ProsThe long term outlook should grow slowly into a stonger and more stable company.

Cons24/7 business makes for tough work schedules and on call. Operations run lean which translates into long hours or extra days to cover sick and vacation of coworkers. Sarlary is a little low and retirement benefits were cut for company match.

    Just okay

    Department Specialist I (Current Employee)

ProsEveryone is really nice. A lot of diversity including with age. The company is huge which can mean plenty of future opportunities. Cafeteria and huge break room. Everyone wears jeans.

ConsThe warehouse is attached to the office so there's a really different blue collar crowd in the break room.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Good place to start a career

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

    ProsGreat associates serving great retailers.
Benefits that had been eliminated/reduced are starting to come back (401k match, merit increases).
CEO Sam Duncan is a strong leader turning a challenged company around.

ConsPending Albertons/Safeway merger is likely to have a strong negative impact on the company in the next 12-18 months if Albertsons moves business away from SV
    Pay is below market comps.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to bring back the perks - expand to more associates if you can - servant leadership.

    It is almost pleasant.

Grocery Clerk Formerly Service (Current Employee)
    Auburndale, MA

ProsI recently transferred to Grocery from Service and it is much better. I get to take my break whenever I want and I hardly ever have harassing customers to deal with.

ConsThe pays not great, and it's hard get great hours. Also, there are almost no benefits. If you work in service you are constantly watched like a hawk by your supervisors and you can hardly move around.

Grocery biz is tough place to stay creative

    Information Technology (Former Employee)
    Boise, ID

ProsExciting, challenging with great pay and wonderful colleagues. If you embrace change and with all it brings, you'll fit in well.

ConsShrinking margins have forced org to significantly reduce staff and cut costs at every corner. Unfortunately, this results in less productivity, creativity and growth for all. Not a great strategy to hang your hat on.

Advice to Senior ManagementSettle in on a strategy and stick with it and remember that your people are you best assets.

Its hard to be in retail

    Senior Software Engineer (Former Employee)
    Salt Lake City, UT

ProsThe employees were good people. Avg in salary compensation, avg in benefits. People wanted the company to succeed

ConsThe company had too many challenges. Lots of initiatives that didnt help that much. The company ended up being bought out by Cerberus. It was big ship and it took too much time to course correct.

Advice to Senior ManagementSince the old management has been replaced I dont know what the new management is like. I think the key is to keep prices low, take care of your customers and employees and figure out how to be relevant in the grocery industry.

    Challenging

    Business Systems Analyst (Former Employee)

ProsWorked with a lot of really good people. Many employees with many years of experience who know the business. Also, had some flexibility with my schedule.

ConsThe company has been going through a lot of changes over the years and faced financial challenges. Time will tell if it will be able to survive these challenges, along with the growth in competition. Over the years, lay offs have taken their toll causing uncertainty for remaining employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your employees and be open with them.
