    Pros

At one time the best job in a company of 13,000 people. Still a ton of great people in place at the branch level Promoted 3 times in 10 years

    Cons

The Clean Harbors Managment Team- watch your back. Those you thought you knew, you know not. 618 pages of Policy and Procedure that will be used against you on technicality when it serves management Sr. Management will expect you fabricate market conditions with your customer and make you look foolish when the customer finds out by having you back down off of the original fabrication with another

    Advice to Management

Make your IntegriTy Come first. Have a WIsh list aND StOp pRetending that your boss' opinion of you will change by culling data 3 different ways. Once you've tasted his ink, he'll keep feeding you the pen... Be who you say you are. If you take on the role of mentor and caretaker, act like it when it matters most. People are watching...and not the ones you think.

    Pros

Great when it was sk yellow in the 90's

    Cons

After 99 when Laidlaw bought them it all went downhill

    Advice to Management

Where to start? Very little room for advancement. Raises are non existent. Pay is way below scale for dealing with hazardous waste. I worked here for 12 years and never made it close to $20 an hr. Retirement plan is non existent. Don't care about employees, as long as you hit your "goals" in production, management doesn't care. Speaking specifically for the Dolton, Il site, you never knew if you would even have a job from week to week because of the awful financial dire straits this company always seemed to be in. Management expected you to be able to do multiple jobs in the plant for the same amount of pay. It seems like sk is an ok place to learn or get your foot in the door for an industrial career, but don't stay there! As soon as I left I received a job making twice what I made there, and currently am at another job making almost 3 times what I made there! This is within 3 years of leaving sk!

    Pros

Before buyout, very sophisticated SAP\SQL Server based IT environment. Excellent long term managers. CIO was superb. Great opportunities to branch out and so new projects.

    Cons

Take over by Clean Harbors ended any hopes for advancement outside of Boston. Top down autocratic environment, dominated by the CEO.

    Advice to Management

If you hope to survive, you need to open yourselves up to ideas out side of the Boston-NY corridor.

    Pros

Good customers, constantly busy, benefits ok

    Cons

The pay is not that great for all the stress you have to deal with, I've seen unethical work practices at the administrative level such as customers payments or service documents being mishandled or lost. then customers call to find out why they are being sent to collections. customers are being misled by lead admin who have not processed those A/R's in a timely manner, this unethical behavior is wrong!! If you report this behavior they will turn a blind eye and treat you like you're ignorant.

    Advice to Management

Clean up your act, Train your upper management to not be so gullible, and teach them to listen to those employees who see and hear these bad business practices and acknowledge the fact that you have some shady crooks working for you. They need to go, because you are losing good customers and good employees because of them.

    Pros

The people at the branch level.

    Cons

Pretty much everything.. Sales managers that have never been in sales. They only care about CRM Scorecard so they look good to upper management. Under paid for what you do. Management only care about how they look.. No pay increases in 12 years. Your job is constantly threated. Company pushes parts washers even though it is a dying part of company. Now that clean harbors has taken over things are worse. Sales have to been in at 7 am same as drivers. Drivers leave around 2:30 and when sales leave at 4:30 it is an issue. Then sales is told the drivers are to busy to get work done even though they leave early.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees who have been with company and let them recommend how to make things better.

    Pros

Not one - the company is led by militant, delusional, self serving, uneducated back stabbers. If you are not part of the "good ole boy network," or god forbid you say something negative about one of the executives, you may as well give two weeks notice - they will fire you for your opinion. If they ask for it, they will give it to you.

    Cons

Not one leader there - awful, misguided leadership. I would not work there if you paid me $500K per year, and gave me a 30 hour work week.

    Advice to Management

Go work somewhere else - the board of directors must place executives in there who can motivate and inspire people. Those executives then must clean house and literally get rid of more than half the company; especially the red neck, uneducated, good ole boy crowd. BC did a great job from 2011 to 2012, and I think the company was on the right path. After Clean Harbors took over, that was it. This company will not be around long term. The business plan is to buy as many companies as they can, and then lay off until the bottom line looks good. I bet it's gone, sold, or broken up before 2016.

    Pros

    Co-workers and mid-management are great.

    Cons

Clean Harbors CEO is an incredibly lucky fool. He surrounds himself with "yes-men" and fires anyone who tells him he's wrong. How the company has grown to the size that it has is beyond me. It's a textbook example of how NOT to run a company.

    Advice to Management

Instead of paying a lot of money to consultants, LISTEN to the people you hired. They know far more about the business, the customers, the operations, and the regulatory constraints than any consultant ever will. The money you paid the consultants would have been better spent on raises for your hard-working employees.

very long hours be expected to go over your DOT driver hrs in a given day. Healthcare benefits are poor for a hazardous working conditions. IF you get hurt be expected to get back to work before you are able. expect vacations to be denied.

    Advice to Management
