    Pros

Good pay and benefits if you've been there a while

    Cons

No work/life balance, one day off a week (but will still get phone calls and be dealing with work, anyway), nothing is ever good enough, regardless of how much sales have improved, loss of scheduling flexibility, unrealistic expectations...the list goes on and on.

    Advice to Management

Remember that your customers and employees matter, not just "sales, sales, sales".

    Pros

Pay is one step above other competitors, about $1-$2 more. A real family environment, almost unprofessional though.

    Cons

This company does not care about its workers. I worked for 7 years as a clerk, the job was fine but I was severely overworked. I was pressured not to take my breaks because it would harm the team. If I got sick I was pressured to come to work anyway, and yelled at when I did; even though I called in 5 times in the 7 years of working there. Bottom line they dont care about you.

    Advice to Management

Care more about the communities and the stores you work in, more than you check or bonus. If you treat the workers right, the store will run right.

    I worked at Safeway part-time

    Pros

It's an entry level job. A good place to hone skills. Comfort in working in a safe environment with nice people. Paid vacation after one year.

    Cons

Low pay, high union dues. Baristas at Starbucks parent locations make on average $11.50 when tips are included. Safeway pays minimum, then a .25 raise after 6 months of work. Starbucks employees get college tuition paid but Safeway Starbucks employees do not receive that benefit. It doesn't make sense to pour coffee at Safeway Starbucks all considered.

    Advice to Management

You are making good money from your kiosks. Consider paying your Baristas what they could expect to make at other Starbuck outlets. There is a reason you cannot fill your open spots.

    Pros

    Easy BART access, employee discount

    Cons

Massive culture clash as Albertsons tries to merge with Safeway. Oil+Water. Confusion reigns.

    Advice to Management

Don't take steps backwards. Stay in the 21st Century, offer more benefits instead of taking them away, such as dissolving our employee association for no reason other than to save a few dollars.

    Pros

Safeway has good benefits if stay on. The people that work there are all weird so it's fun. You can move around the jobs within the store.

    Cons

If your someone who needs challenge it's not the place to be. It's a temporary position and I wouldn't be a lifer because it's so uninspiring and drab.

    Advice to Management

I have no real advice for the management. They all do exactly what they are supposed to do and do it well.

    Cons

Very long hours . lost family time and events with family. Not too many weekends to enjoy.

    Advice to Management

Know how to time manage. Make sure you don't stay when you can work the problem tomorrow . Know who to delegate.

    Pros

Good hours, pay OK, breaks good, security is good, fast-pacing environment.

    Cons

disrespectful co-workers, training is not enough, left alone without training.

    Advice to Management

Tell employees to treat other with kindness than treating new employees with disrespect.

    Pros

Easy job. Put things on shelves and scan items at checkout

    Cons

Low pay, detestable management, missing inventory, poor organization

    Advice to Management

Get new management. No manager cared about their job. All ran off to a 'call' or 'break' when they were needed up front to deal with a customer or provide manager override pass.

    Pros

Got to work with fun people, got to meet interesting folks, and learned more about alcohol than I ever wanted to. The experience helped me gain employment elsewhere.

    Cons

The pay was just simply not enough, manager had no idea what he was doing, turnaround was hard to deal with sometimes, almost zero raises or opportunity to move up within the company.

    Advice to Management

Priorities are out of wack, they expect way too much from their clerks and aren't very forgiving when it comes to simple mistakes and errors.
