I have been working at Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Paycheck, Overtime available, Steady hours, safe.

    Cons

Management. mandatory overtime, rules aren't applicable to everyone, bureaucratic mess, poor communication.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Over the last couple years they've lost focus on employees and quality which the company has suffered for. Management has created a culture of "you don't matter" to employees. Current operations and management- personnel relationships need to be examined. There is no trust in management anymore.

I worked at Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Strong focus on safety; decent compensation/benefits; job stability; great co-workers

    Cons

lack of growth, inconsistent management practice of values, risk-averse culture, little effort to get to know employees; far too complex organizational structure with obvious lack of cohesion between levels and functions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get out of your conference rooms and listen to your employees (talk less, listen a lot more); solicit their opinion on company values, strategy, work/life balance and other key attributes of the employer-employee relationship, and then follow up concretely and quickly.

    Pros

Great opportunity for development and supportive of education and training

    Cons

Dog-eat-dog politics, too many meetings, too strict on headcount and overloading salaried staff

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Loosen the reins and allow managers to manage including budget and headcount. Allow more fixed heads to help retain your talent before they burn out.

    Pros

nothing really except a relatively good salary, few good colleagues and a small/rapidly declining number of experienced staff.

    Cons

There are several downsides but nothing as serious as the management. Incompetent management and a total lack of respect to staff.

Couldn't agree more with a review berlow about bad managers with horrid tempers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

that's a difficult one since mamagement especially upper management is the problem

It has been a struggle to continuously re-adapt to 3 different managers for our branch in three years - it's hard.

I have been working at Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics

    Pros

great benefits, good time off plan, retirement plan, good 401k contributions, bonus pay possible, dress is casual

    Cons

Management is few in number with too much to do loaded on to them. One works hard and picks up all the slack while the other has a horrid temper and is extrememly difficult to work with. There are no checks or balances for bad managers so the problems continue to happen without any effort to mediate on HR's part.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at the people you have in place as managers and then go talk to people who work for them or even the ones who don't - hear how they think our office is doing in terms of morale and teamwork. Find out what their managerial styles are really like and fix the issues with more training for the managers or just new managers.

    Pros

Production staff is dedicated. Supervisors are not so good.

    Cons

PM and Sups don't care about the employees. They changes schedules often; required to work holiday& at times work 20 days in row. All about $

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a new Plant Manager. Stop playing games. Sr Management is awesome but don't see what goes on in Merrimack.
