    Good people. Poor Leadership.

    Manager (Current Employee) Clearwater, FL

ProsTechnical products, investment from parent company

ConsExecutives are removed from reality. Business units are not cohesive, lots of politics and internal competition.

Great for growth, but get out before you burn out

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGreat opportunity for development and supportive of education and training

ConsDog-eat-dog politics, too many meetings, too strict on headcount and overloading salaried staff

Advice to Senior ManagementLoosen the reins and allow managers to manage including budget and headcount. Allow more fixed heads to help retain your talent before they burn out.

Research Engineer (Current Employee) Worcester, MA

    Prosoverall flexibility and good benefits

Consnot easy to grow with the company especially as someone who has only BS. Don't feel sense of belonging. Too crazy about everything.

    could be much beter

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Northborough, MA

Prosnothing really except a relatively good salary, few good colleagues and a small/rapidly declining number of experienced staff.

ConsThere are several downsides but nothing as serious as the management. Incompetent management and a total lack of respect to staff.

Couldn't agree more with a review berlow about bad managers with horrid tempers

Advice to Senior Managementthat's a difficult one since mamagement especially upper management is the problem

It has been a struggle to continuously re-adapt to 3 different managers for our branch in three years - it's hard.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Boulder, CO

Prosgreat benefits, good time off plan, retirement plan, good 401k contributions, bonus pay possible, dress is casual

ConsManagement is few in number with too much to do loaded on to them. One works hard and picks up all the slack while the other has a horrid temper and is extrememly difficult to work with. There are no checks or balances for bad managers so the problems continue to happen without any effort to mediate on HR's part.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook at the people you have in place as managers and then go talk to people who work for them or even the ones who don't - hear how they think our office is doing in terms of morale and teamwork. Find out what their managerial styles are really like and fix the issues with more training for the managers or just new managers.

    Good company, great coworkers. Mgmt is hostile; treat hourly ee's poorly more concerned about their bonuses;

    Manager (Former Employee) Merrimack, NH

ProsProduction staff is dedicated. Supervisors are not so good.

ConsPM and Sups don't care about the employees. They changes schedules often; required to work holiday& at times work 20 days in row. All about $

Advice to Senior ManagementGet a new Plant Manager. Stop playing games. Sr Management is awesome but don't see what goes on in Merrimack.

Stable, Boring Job that goes nowhere

Research Engineer (Former Employee) Northborough, MA

ProsStable Job. Decent people. A few talented people at the R&D center. Ok benefits

ConsVery bureaucratic. Arrogant Management. Technical competancy low. Intellectually dissatisfying work.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on retaining talented people by allowig them to do more science and/or better advancement opportunities.

Great place to start your career

Research Engineer II (Former Employee) Northborough, MA

    ProsGreat learning experience
    Work amongst best engineers
    Innovative environment
    High heath and Safety Standards
    Travel opportunities
    Exposure to Corporate Culture
    Job Security

ConsMS and BS engineers treated like technicians instead of engineers. Non PhD engineers not welcomed at meetings, presentations etc. The career growth is also very different for both.
Too much Red Tape and bureaucracy, as could be expected in a big company

Advice to Senior ManagementOverall, Saint Gobain is a great company to work for. The technical and other opportunities (training, travel, growth) are wonderful. However, there is a vast career growth gap between MS/BS and PhD engineers. That could be narrowed a little bit.
