I have been working at Sallie Mae full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Benefits were nice. Insurance, 401k, paid time off, etc were great compared to other companies I have worked for. Incentive pay (bonus) for the group I worked for was low, but not competitive. There is some room to grow in the company. The bosses for the most part are willing to listen

    Cons

There are some major issues with the systems we work with, working in a call center can be stressful especially when the people you call are hateful

I have been working at Sallie Mae full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Plenty chances to take onsite courses to learn new skills. Professional work culture. Opportunities for advancement. Great benefits from flextime, telecommute options, health care, stock option and stock purchase programs.

    Cons

Movement of training department from VA to IN decreased the training opportunities for VA employees. Possible because Sallie Mae purchased a company in IN and that company's management became a majority in Sallie Mae management.
Movement of headquarters from VA to newly acquired office in DE caused a smaller VA office when it led to layoffs. Management of company in DE became a majority in Sallie Mae management. The move was also possibly because VA politicians voted for the Federal Government to service federal loans instead of Sallie Mae. These loans were very profitable for Sallie Mae.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Show a commitment to VA headquarters to improve their morale.

I have been working at Sallie Mae full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The benefits are competitive, the building has a gym, and the people are very friendly.

    Cons

There often seems to be a lack of communication cross departmentally. The salary can be much more competitive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There should be more movement internally, without posting for the job, to cross train and develop employee talent for those who want to be leaders in the company.
