    Pros

    Great family atmosphere, very friendly

    Cons

Selling credit and plus memberships is #1 priority and gets in the way of customer service

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't cut hours for people just to get a bigger Sam's Share, it hurts customer service and quality of employees.

Don't take advantage of weaker associates by stepping all over them
Don't lead by fear and intimidation. Listen to SAM Walton

Don't align with the people division to device a plan to get rid of good associates
Don't lie to your upper leaders that you are holding people accountable but you are actually using accountability as an excuse to get rid of someone

Current Employee - Cart Associate  in  Lexington-Fayette, KY
Current Employee - Cart Associate in Lexington-Fayette, KY

I have been working at Sam's Club part-time for less than a year

    Pros

They have wonderful, nice people working for them. They have plenty of jobs to choose from. They have some nice benefits as well. If you want time off, it's first come, first serve so that way if you're new and ask first and a guy who has seniority asks 2nd, you will get it over the seniority. I think that's pretty great to have.

    Cons

I didn't sign up for Cart Associate but was put under that anyways.

I was signed under part-time but they gave me hours like I was full time. I'm borderline full time.

Cart Associates are the lowest pay grade even though they work hard; pushing the carts through whatever weather comes through 7 hours a day, rushing themselves to make sure no member has to wait for a cart (The cart room clears up QUICK), getting flatbeds for customers to use, and helping members load their cars. Cart Associates get paid 8$ an hour, the same pay for a member greeter who stands at the entrance and exit, checking cards or checking receipts. Personally, I am not physically able to do the job and feel like I am destroying my body as I do the job. I know no job comes easy, but the rate of pay with the physical capabilities of this job is not worth it. I am glad they don't pay minimum wage, but at the same time the pay is too low for Carts.

Only way to switch to in-store jobs is to make sure you let them know what jobs you want on the WIRE, their closed network. They will let you know when one is open and interview you again to see if you would be good for the job. Kinda like getting rehired for the company.

They also have a lot of self-entitled jerks as customers, not all of them but a lot of them.

Over all, I am on the edge of quitting. Too many cons to out weigh the pros. Coming from a major upbeat, optimistic guy, I feel the effects of this company making me more and more pessimist.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Raise the pay a little for Cart Associates. They deserve it for half the stuff they do. Also, don't immediately put someone under a job if they never signed up for it in the first place.

    Pros

    Cons

I have been working at Sam's Club part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Sam's club is a fun place to work that offers god pay and annual bonuses. They value all employees and acknowledge your hard work.

    Cons

Selling memberships is hard and the managers require that you get at least one a day. Cashiers have to do way more work that is required of them. Includes covering door greeter positions, cart pusher, tire and battery center, and cleaning up the floor at night.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Either pay cashiers more or only work them at the job you pay them for.

I have been working at Sam's Club part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Sam's works with my school schedule very well, even allowing me to work only at nights weekdays, and anytime on weekends! My manager was very willing to change my work schedule to fit my school schedule and even recommended that I should keep low hours for now till I get used to college. Then I can upgrade for more time if needed!

    Cons

Got to keep working all the time, and breaks are limited. COS are very nice but sometimes their rules/company policy is too strict to be able to do out jobs properly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Add another 15 min break perhaps? Cart associates do need more time to catch their breaths and keep hydrated.

I have been working at Sam's Club part-time for more than a year

    Pros

-You get a great bonus after Holiday season depending on how good your Sam's Share is
-Familiar member faces, which is always nice, because you build relationships with them
-They work with your schedule and it isn't hard to switch shifts with someone if you really need to
-Decent wage I started at 9.25 an hour it all depends on your work experience
-You get holiday pay when you have to work on holidays and there really isn't a huge Black Friday if you've worked in retail before you know this is nice

    Cons

I've been at Sam's for a year now, at first it was really great and I was super happy with it. Six months into it, I honestly wouldn't look forward to work anymore. You start noticing the drama between coworkers as if they were in high school. Management has recently told us that we have to get 5 upgrades a person per shift which is a little ridiculous since most of us can barely get 3-4 a week. It seems like employees are under too much pressure for the amount that we get paid. They care more about their bonus than their employees and that's why they're going to have problems. It seems like everyone that gets hired there is into it the first five months and after that they get over it, because the job is so demanding with upgrades, and management being really strict on hours, since they got cut. Again.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more organized, the club would run better that way. Try to build more personal relationships with your employees most feel like you don't care about them. It's a give and take relationship you need to have a team to have a successful club.

I have been working at Sam's Club full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Culture emphasizes member service.

    Cons

Low pay. No cost of living increases are provided.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some managers are lazy when it comes to assisting associates at times when a salaried member of management is needed. Many are underpaid mad productivity would be better if associates were better compensated. Skilled service associates would be retained instead of resigning for better opportunities.
