Current Employee – been working at Samsung Austin Semiconductor
Pros – Bright future for the company (good products, good profits, investment). Strong support from Korea with money and engineering talent. Multicultural environment.
Cons – Inept senior management (Korean and US directors and VPs) focused more on sucking up to Han than leading. Former president (2007-8) intentionally sabotaged our work culture and substituted the beat-down acceptance typical of international conglomerates. Good riddance to him! Favoritism towards Korean-Americans. Unhelpful, sometimes bizarre company initiatives (Samsung Production System is a joke, "Hwang's Law" made all Samsung employees look bad).
Advice to Senior Management – There's nothing wrong with Korean culture or US culture. But Korean big-company working culture is a mess. So keep it out as much as possible. Get back to allowing SAS to set an example for HQ to shoot for. Allow the engineers some freedom and they will give Samsung-best results. Fire all the directors, even if it means that more dispatchers must come in. No one has any confidence in them. Find some US engineers to trust and make real plans; balance out the senior dispatchers who have too much power now.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
