I have been working at San Jose State part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

It is very convenient when switching between classes and work. The workload is pretty light and not as stressful and demanding as internships and work outside. Very casual and gives student the basic work experience. Flexible schedule.

    Cons

The pay is not really that great. They pay you minimum wage which is ok for the work you do. I just wish they payed more when your working a lot of hours. Most of the time, they are not great as portfolio pieces.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Balance is easy since the work is on campus which subtracts a lot of commute time. But design classes are usually long and they want you to be available as much as possible.

I worked at San Jose State

    Pros

The atmosphere was professional. I felt respected in the office where I worked. All employees in my office and all surrounding offices seemed to be very courteous and professional.

    Cons

It would have been nice to learn a bit more marketable skills, i.e. technical skills or soft skills. However, I was able to work a fair amount with Excel using different feature and I definitely learned a lot.

I worked at San Jose State part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

This is a great company to work for, and there are a lot of very educated people working for this university.

    Cons

Obviously people always want more pay, and that is true of this company as well, again my job was funded through the government, so there is not much one can do about getting a raise through your direct manager.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Great job! Keep up the good work!

I worked at San Jose State as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

Friendly environment and nice people. iHouse has a wide range of activities and events, students could get experience there, which may build up their confidence.

    Cons

There are many traditions and rules that might be the challenge to do creativity projects. In addition, the majority of residences are exchange students, learning the good way to communicate with people who have different background is not a easy thing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Organising more activities for current residents. Moreover, reinforce the relationship with alumni, it could through sending newsletter, social media messages and so on.

    Recommends
    Positive Outlook
