I worked at Sanmina-SCI (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The people you work with are great, that's what keeps everyone there the longest.

    Cons

To many to list. But to start: compensation is very low, there hasn't been merit increases in 5 plus years, no ESPP, very low 401k, the employees are not a focus here so they are treated very poorly. There's no flexiblity with schedules or attire. Room to grow or Promotions are few and far between. Very little training provided and outside training is frowned upon.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company needs culture change to start, that most likely starts with management

    I worked at Sanmina-SCI

    Pros

Good people in the rank and file and some of the management.

    Cons

CEO froze comp, eliminated 401k match and stock options and forced use of vacation during plant shutdowns. Earned bonuses and commissions denied AFTER they were earned. Stock tripled in past two years and execs got bonuses but austerity program remains in place. Top talent has left.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize the value of the employees. Keep your and pay them what you promise. Honesty and integrity go a long way. Denying bonuses and commissions after they are earned is unethical. Until you change this culture, you will continue to lose your best people.

    I worked at Sanmina-SCI

    Pros

Working at Salmina SCI was a slightly better alternative than unemployment. Learning how to use the Oracle system was a major plus.

    Cons

Turnover in my department was excessive. Paying degreed professionals $38,000 per year is crazy. Several long-term employees reported to me that they had not received a salary increase in over three years. Senior managers are totally metrics oriented. The metrics dashboard is busier than an F-16 cockpit. Employees with no better options work there long term. Employees with better options leave quickly. My manager was honestly surprised when several temp employees moved on to other jobs. Both employees moved on to comparable jobs at $20-$25,000 more per year. She truly believe that these skilled professionals had no other alternatives. She had no interest in the personal needs of these employees. Metrics ruled the day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior managers need to change the culture. Hiring and retaining good people at the correct market salary is essential. Staffing departments with a marching army of low paid temp employees leads to excessive turnover. Investing and training fewer but better paid employees is a better long term solution.

    Pros

Company has some great talent and dedicated employees, but they don't recognize and reward.

    Cons

So much turnover for lack of leadership, compensation and benefits and employee respect.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up, you are loosing good people because you are so entrenched. Stop and listen and make some positive changes or you will continue to lose good people who use Sanmina as a training ground and then move on to bigger and better. Value your talent and show them you do!

    I have been working at Sanmina-SCI full-time

    Pros

Better than nothing. Have moved newer machines into machine shop from plants that are closing from other countries.

    Cons

NO Raises, Poor working conditions, No Support from HR to employees, Management known for berating and harrassment of employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider that some of your assets from the company are actually your senior employees. Remember that yes you can find someone who can do the job for less money, but it may take 2 or 3 of those employees to do the same job as one experieced.

    Pros

None, other than for a while it was a job in a struggling economy, and at one point long ago the benefits were good.

    Cons

overtime of 20 hrs per week for over a year and still going. benefits are standard with the exception of the 401K match only being $125 a quarter, There is very little option for personal growth and the company invests nothing in the employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

put some intelegent people in positions that matter and there may be a future

I have been working at Sanmina-SCI full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Keeping a roof over my head, for now.

    Cons

Management is not appreciative of their loyal employees. Most of us actually do care about our work and do want the company to succeed. I can remember when 100 - 200 people would line up every week to get in to fill out an application to get a job at the former Hadco. Now that it is Sanmina, and when they are doing any hiring, they have to beg people to apply at job fairs. The Owego facility used to be a shining star in the PCB industry. Now it is a black hole that just wants to suck the life out of its employees. No raises for employees in over 8 years. Production equipment is being mothballed and removed while the product is sent outside the facility to be processed elsewhere and then returned to be finished up. Can't meet delivery deadlines due to equipment being down while waiting for parts to be purchased that should be kept as spares on the shelf for making repairs. Too much red tape is present in the manufacturing process to allow for any creative thinking. The entire mentality now is put the board in, push the button, take the board out, repeat.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start treating the employees like people. Take a few minutes each day to get out on the floor and talk to the people doing the work. Find out what the problems are, gather ideas, foster a TEAM environment. Appreciate the workers on the production floor and show them some respect and they will in turn make the company a much better place. Bring back the incentive to do a great job and it will get done. Keep stomping on the little people "ants" and they will eventually turn on you are devour the wood of the house. Once the house crumbles, they will move on to a better house.

    Pros

Before Sanmina took over, SCI was great

    Cons

Too many to list. No way I would ever go back or recommend this place to anyone other than for an assembly line job where no one expects anyone to care.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I met Jure several times, my advise to him would be to act like you care for you people,. Just act, I know you can't, but at last act like you can. To Manesh Patel, CIO... You are going to ruin the company with you complete lack of common sense and desire to save a dollar. I suggest you get support payments made and quit cheating you major IT partners out of licensing,

I have been working at Sanmina-SCI full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Some really good engineers and management, but they are not in SJ. They are in another state.

    Cons

This is not a development company. It is a manufacturing slave company. There is no product development. Sanmina is also known as Slavemina. Policies, especially IT policies are engineering and growth hindrances. There is no Wi-Fi for employees. The company is a decade behind the rest of Silicon Valley. Forget about competitive benefits. There are a lot of people that wear grey smocks that look like prisoners walking around. There are a lot of TVs just hanging around for no reasons other than propaganda, waste of money. Offices are pretty much empty. They removed SCI from the name, but it's still the same Sanmina name and logo. I don't understand why there's a picture of the same woman pointing to some lights that you are forced to look at everywhere, everyday, and everytime you log into email.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change IT, and your IT policies.

I have been working at Sanmina-SCI full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good people at the engineering level

    Cons

    Poor morale
    Frequent random layoffs
Pay competeitive to start then no increase.
High turnover in engineering 33% in a year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Seek and utilize employees advice rather than top down management. Treat employees as an asset rather than a cost to be minimized. Cheaper to keep current engineers than hire new.
