    I worked at Sanofi-Aventis full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits are better than most, vacation, 401k.

    Cons

I worked for many of the predecessor companies on the Aventis side, since 2005 and the hiring of Chris Viebacher the culture has soured to heavy handed over site and management. I was a manager in the company and began to feel like I was being asked to do things against my ethical beliefs in rating employees when much of the performance today is dictated by managed care and PBM's.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We know it is all about the stockholders and keeping the folks in Paris happy. Relax the culture, performance metrics are ridiculous when you don't understand the US market is not being controlled by healthcare providers alone. There are so many more factors determining prescription volume unless you have novel compounds which unfortunately you do not!

    I worked at Sanofi-Aventis full-time

    Pros

Salary competitive, ample parking, some excellent colleagues, resources available when priority, international opportunities, high turnover can create opportunities

    Cons

Poor leadership, no long-term vision or commitment, poor culture - Franco-centric, poor communication, run by bean counters and lawyers, budget re-aligned every 3 mos, innovation squelched and not recognized, CYA culture dominates

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create internal start-ups with 5 yr budgets with 50% internal and external management mix and do not micro-manage. Reorganize into separately run units - decentralized.

    I worked at Sanofi-Aventis full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The car, can make your own schedule, benefits are good.

    Cons

Horrible work culture.....set goals that are very difficult to match, as it has become harder and harder to get into hospitals and clinics. They don't care and blatantly ask you to violate laws or do whatever you need to do to get in front of a doc and get the sales. Ethically, it became too much and not worth it to continue there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get in the field and actually understand the polices and laws in place and rework how sales professionals should conduct their job, as well as new ways to attain the sales goals without compromising a person's ethics and legal implications of unethical practice!

    I worked at Sanofi-Aventis

    Pros

The only pro about working at s-a were the healthcare benefits and generous vacation time. Other than that, there is NO reason to work there.

    Cons

Terrible drug pipeline, many failed attempts at bringing new innovative drugs to market, very high turnover at the senior management level, the company is so large that "the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing."

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

s-a really needs to bring in outside senior management from outside pharma. The company is way too large and too fragmented & this leads to no true company identity.

I have been working at Sanofi-Aventis

    Pros

They don't call it golden handcuffs for a reason. The pay and salary is good for the level of the actual everyday stress. Still has some autonomy

    Cons

Micro management is an understatement. Managers provide little value, career growth is non-existent and you should never give anything but glowing feedback.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend some real time in the field,(not on ride-along's) so you understand how ridiculous some requests are. You also need to learn that employee's without job security are unproductive and will ultimately leave. The mantra that job security doesn't exist in US companies is ridiculous.

I have been working at Sanofi-Aventis

    Pros

Great benefits, a few good products to sell, to get pharmaceutical experience, to see how Big Pharma works, to get a paycheck (albeit one on the low end of the pharma company pay spectrum)

    Cons

Micromanagement of employees, constant poor corporate decision making resulting in an increasingly unstable company, no clear vision or path for employees (business plan/model changes virtually every quarter), corrupt management, bonus payout reports ridiculously late and often contain conspicuously "funny" math, little opportunity for advancement or growth compared to other companies, abusive managers, poor product pipeline, loss of credibility in the medical community, unethical practices, disregard for employee morale

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop the bleeding, please.

    Cons

No room for improvement. Favoritism is high within management.
