Good company

Quality Engineer (Former Employee)

I worked at Schlumberger full-time for more than 3 years

ProsMany of new parts and several tests gives engineers to learn several industrial standards and test methods. Probably an engineer can not have this opportunity if he/she joined to regular mass production company or small/middle size of any company.

ConsThis company has many main procedures which is good since these are made by following ISO9001. Problems are sub-procedures which breaks down into actual rule for each departments. There are many standards and rules among department which has conflict between their procedures. Each department makes their own procedure without checking other related department procedures or following the idea of ISO.

Advice to Senior ManagementTop managements are really smart and keen on everything. Some of middle managements were same, but most of them were not. Middle management training may be required to be a better company.

Wonderful

Wireline Field Engineer (Current Employee)

I have been working at Schlumberger full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThey give lots of responsibility to employees at an early age, and give you ample chances to prove yourself and move up in the company. It is a very exciting company to work for, you learn a lot, and you get to meet people from all over the world, and travel as well. In addition, Schlumberger is VERY well respected in the oil industry, and success here will open many doors for you.

ConsYou work a LOT. New employees can work up to 300 days per year, and the hours are long. Variable schedules also make it difficult to schedule activities outside of work and to see your family.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to de-emphasize the bureaucracy and instead put the profits into the field- field employees and equipment.

Your experience in the company is what you make of it.

Field Specialist (Former Employee)
Houma, LA

I worked at Schlumberger full-time for more than 5 years

ProsPlenty of opportunities to advance or go into different areas of expertise. Additionally, there are plenty of travel opportunities and plenty of opportunities to work abroad. Plenty of intense training to ensure you are qualified to perform the duties you are assigned.

ConsSometimes the company bends over backwards too far for the client, even to the point where it is not good for them. Management and sales need to learn to tell the client "no", when what they are requesting is too risky.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake care of your employees and realize quarterly returns is not the end all.
