Former Employee - Production Engineer in Houston, TX

    Pros

Structured learning and mentorship. Responsibility given to employees very early in career (2-3yrs). Pay is good compared to peers. Discounted stock program is good.

    Cons

After GFE career progression becomes very subjective and uncoordinated. A lot of organizational changes in short time periods. No retention plan for H1B employees after six years. HR is very removed from employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Managers need better preparation to become "good managers". Most managers don't know how to manage people. Although management is ready for attrition numbers but better retention packages can be worked out by HR. Hire professional HR personnel not Engineers turned HR staff ...doesn't work 98%of the time. Change is good for business but "a lot" of change is bad... How many prior times has PTS changed names?

Current Employee - Resource Coordinator  in  Denver, CO
Current Employee - Resource Coordinator in Denver, CO

    Pros

-Lots of Responsibility in a short amount of time.
-Exciting work environment in the field
    -Excellent Training programs
    -Competitive Oilfield pay
    -Strong emphasis on safety
-Always opportunities for movement in the company

    Cons

    -Tons of bureaucracy
    - Middle Management can be very influential on day to day life and often times do not look out for employees
    - Difficult to get vacation approved and now have new policy of only allowing employees to keep half of their vacation at the end of the year.
    - Typically understaffed. Leads to long stressful hours often times having to cover what would be 2-3 peoples jobs. This also leads to poor service quality which you then have to deal with from the client.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more people and work on employee retention. Piling up work on employees leads to burnout employee (see our low retention rate) and poor service quality in the end leading to lose of contracts.

Current Employee - Field Engineer  in  Houston, TX
Current Employee - Field Engineer in Houston, TX

    Pros

Pay overall was for most part good but should have been better given the time and effort sometimes. Travel was a benefit depending what you do and where you go but this can be had at a lot of companies. Pension if you have it. Retiree Health care plan.

    Cons

Pension no longer available for new employees. (now they offer 6 % match I believe instead of 3% match plus pension.) Field locations are not very nice. Move you around way too much, not good for family life. Clients can treat you poorly as it is service oriented.
Field personnel have terrible schedules compared to offshore drilling companies. Schedule is typically 14 on and 7 off vs 28 days on and 28 days off for a drilling company. More people would want to stay and work for the company if the time off was better.

    Pros

    Good pay, casual work environment

    Cons

    - Hard to have work-life balance.
    - It is a big corporation, so can't avoid politics

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More active in marketing and sales, and upper management should have more attention to locational employees.
