    Pros

Work with many young people from all corners of the world. Clear plan for promotions and what is expected from all employees. Impressive amount of responsibility given to new employees. Great conpensation and benefits.

    Cons

Work life balance is poor. Spend weeks away from home while at work. Oil and gas industry is volatile when it's good it's the best but when it's bad SLB reacts quick and cuts the fat.

    Advice to Management

Stay in touch with field employees more to know the morale. Develope a better structure for scheduling to allow employees to plan days off.

  2. Hired me to do applied research but provides inadequate authority, budget, infrastructure, and support.

    Pros

Excellent technical expertise among diverse colleagues. Lower managers very professional, very good at hearing all points of view and creating recognition.

    Cons

Poor organization in regard to connecting research to engineering and to clients.

    Advice to Management

The role of upper management in regard to Research should be to give lower managers information about what is needed, then enough resources to get it done. Don't paste upper-management objectives into objectives of research scientists unless they're relevant.

    Pros

Schlumberger offer a lot of training in many aspects. Plenty opportunities to travel worldwide. Located in many countries. Leader in the oilfield.

    Cons

Work / life balance often leans to more work and less life time. Oilfield offices are often not located in the best areas. Managers change too often, hard to stay on track when this occurs. View as a number rather than a person.

    Advice to Management

Get to know the staff you work with.

    Pros

    - Ridiculous Training
    - Industry leader
    - Competitive pay
    - Detailed, clear structure for promotion

As an MWD, SLB gives you more training than any other company, which can be super annoying, but everyone in the industry knows about it. This makes you a much more promising candidate to any future employers beside Schlumberger.

    Cons

    - Completely impersonal
    - 1 of 120k Employees
    - Quality of services falls very short of what you would hope from such a huge company.

You do not matter to anyone, anywhere in the company. But, I never found this all too surprising from a company this size. You are likely to be let go and disregarded more than you ever would inn any small company. But, as long as you don't plan on staying with SLB for life, you'll be fine.

    Pros

I worked with people my age and they were all very welcoming. There was always something to do but never extremely rushed. The orientation and wrap up week for the interns was very fun!

    Cons

Full time employees dont stay very long with the company, about 1-2 years at most. Long work weeks with weird hours that makes your internal body clock go out of sync. Manager never stood up for her engineers when it came to clients.
