I worked at Schneider full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Excellent, fast paced work environment. Great people with helpful managers that can put you on a path to making good money in a time when great jobs are at a premium. Fair salary, fair commission structure. You need to know, going into a sales job with cold calling requires a large amount of work, motivation and being able to multitask while staying organized.

    Cons

Lots of cold calling, but that is to be expected in a job such as this.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be as helpful as possible and work to customize your approaches when training/working with sales associates. Better phone training skills are a must.

I worked at Schneider full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Free driver training, management respects and listens to the drivers, good pay, new equipment (trucks), always focused on safety.

    Cons

Crazy hours, away from home for weeks at a time, stress, traffic, no pay if the wheels aren't turning.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep listening to the drivers.

I worked at Schneider full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The company has tons of different types of roles and job opportunities. Sit-ins are encouraged to learn about other roles and move up within the company. Hard workers are noticed and promoted. The people are amazing and put their whole heart into their work

    Cons

With such a large company it's hard to know what's out there for other opportunities are out there or where to begin. While most people are awesome, some managers have been kept around due to longevity versus skill. Work/like balance can get out of hand if you don't set your own limits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more visible! All the executives are in one wing versus spread throughout like with many employers.

Current Employee - Company Driver Inter-modal  in  Chicago, IL
Current Employee - Company Driver Inter-modal in Chicago, IL

I have been working at Schneider full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Chicago Intermodal Fleet. People are always willing to help. Pay is decent for a newer drive starting at $0.34 (+0.07 performance pay based on safety metrics). Weekly paychecks will be about 700-1000 for regional drivers who are just starting.

    Cons

Parking lot and Operating Center gravel lots are like land mine craters...drive slow. Much older trucks in this fleet...dented and banged up from years 2006- present of use and intermodal close quarters incidents. Newer truck coming in by end of summer 2013- they look like they do not have in-cab a/c which would mean that the truck will need to be idled in the summertime if a/c is needed while you sleep which can count against performance metrics.
COMMUNICATE TROUGH THE QUALLCOMM MESSAGE FEATURE. It helps you as the driver have proof of what you are doing or need in writing. If calling into your leader first send a msg on th QUALLCOMM and follow up by phone (avg hold time is 15min)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop laughing and talking to each other while I stand in the office with my cell phone on hold in your call que trying to see why it takes so long before someone answers the phone. I have done this each time I've come into the office to scan paperwork.

    Pros

HR is extremely fair and I have never felt cheated or that I have been treated unfairly.

    Cons

Hours can be stressful to ensure proper driver support.
OTM can be hard to learn and be time consuming for the learning curve

    Pros

    -great miles
    -benifits
-lots of driving postitions and options
-work closely with dot to eliminate hassles

    Cons

-they are cheap when it comes to equipment, always fix, never wanting to upgrade trucks
-they stress safety a little too much, very strict when it comes to driving on every little aspect
-sensors installed in truck to moniter everything gets annoying and sometime in-accurate

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

upgrade trucks and stop stressing so much over safety, because sometimes the truck sensor goes off when it is not supposed too. it is not a perfect system
