    Intern for Educational Research

I worked at School District of Philadelphia as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Really great place to work. The managers are both friendly and understanding. Everyone works as a team and are willing to help you with anything.

    Cons

Very limited resources! Start up is slow and it can be tough to get through HR, receive access badge, etc. Training was also quite slow but there is not much they can do with the little amount of resources they are given.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Really enjoyed it here! Keep up the great work!

    Pros

Decent Pay, Great Benefits, Great Schedule, Great Coworkers.

    Cons

No policies remain intact for the students to abide by. Constant threat of pay cuts due to anti-teacher superintendents.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat staff better. It's hard enough to get people to want to work in these places. Why would you try and push those who enjoy it out?

I have been working at School District of Philadelphia full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

pay, health benefits, retirement benefits, time off (can you say July and August!), job security. the feeling that you are making the world a better place, unionized (for many) work place.

    Cons

Incompetence from higher ups, bully school principals, misbehaving students can often wear you down. Your work day is basically chaotic every day. Micromanagement to the extreme. Creativity is squashed. Most principals simply want obedience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get better principals and train them! The people that I know who have left have left because of either bully and unsupportive school principals, or simply just tired of incompetence from the district higher ups. They didn't leave because of the kids. Many good people who have left would still be with the district had they had better principals.
