    Pros

Great benefits--401k, paid vacation and sick days, onsite gym and health center

    Cons

Managers don't see lower levels as equals, competition/distrust occurs between and within departments. People try to get ahead by gossiping and making others look bad. Managers spy on their workers and rule with fear rather than any actual leading talent. You are expected to get there early and leave late--anything less is seen as not being committed to the company, even if you have a family at home waiting for you. The turnover rate in my department was 50% over the last year, and I'm surprised it's not higher.

    Pros

The people that work there are nice.

    Cons

Expected to work 60-7- hours per week, no benefits until 90 days, no taking time off at all. Work Monday thru Saturday. Pay is poor.

    Advice to Management

Either make shifts so people don't get burnt out from these long hours and can plan a doctor's appointment or allow pay to equal for these crazy hours.

Company Car and lunch. In addition, get to use products for testing on your lawn. Get a phone and laptop.

    Cons

Company does not want experience from within. If you have been there longer than 10 start to worry.

    Advice to Management

    Newer is not always better.

    Pros

The money is good you get the salary pay they promise you and if you can sell the commission is not great but helps, and you work by yourself or with a partner

    Cons

The hours are long start at 11:00 and finish when it get dark out which can be 6 pm or 9 pm and you work every weekend from 9am to 4pm or 6 pm if it rains you have to stay inside the building and make cold calls to past angry customer and are not allowed to leave untill 9pm. and when summer is over they just lay you off. Also if you do not meet the sales quote each week they will let you go

    Advice to Management

be more upfront with your employees and treat them like they are part of the team

    Pros

Rarely seeing managers during the week

    Cons

Money is a joke . Managers are worthless . They do nothing to boost sales but get the end of the year bonus while the merchandisers and counselors do all the work . No benefits , no gas reimbursement . Working around all the chemicals will make you sick . Job ends within 3 months .

    Advice to Management

Get rid of Sales Managers . They no longer can do ordering so whats the point ?

    Pros

The one big pro is they try and take care of their employees physical health. They have a great onsite gym, medical facilities, pool and they try and do right by also having other perqs that many companies do not have anymore. However see the Con!

    Cons

The work environment is awful, HUGE turnover. Upper management is always changing the game. Delayering, then giving the wrong people the power over others. No wonder most people only stay 2-4 years! Good luck to anyone working there, they will eat you up and spit you back out!

    Advice to Management

REALLY look at who is doing the work, what needs to be done and don't put all your faith in the system. Actually look at the real work that is being done and how, not just how few people can we have do this job?

    Scotts Miracle-Gro Response

Thank you for your honest Feedback. Turnover at Scotts is actually at the low end for our industry and our average employee longevity is more than 5 years.

    Pros

They are very consistent on getting your well earned paycheck to you on time. Absolutely nothing else is good about this company.

    Cons

The Management at Scotts has turned almost hostile toward their loyal hard working employees. Not only are they now tracking their employees by GPS, they treat their Sales Force like second class citizens. You can do 999 things correctly and 1 thing wrong and they will rip you on the 1 mistake. If you're looking for a career that's full of frustration, being unappreciated, working in a hazardous environment with little chance to get ahead, sign up. This wasn't always the case. They only care about what Wall Street tells them to do. A once great company has turned into a slave driving uncaring bunch of egotistical VP's run a mock. What a shame!

    Advice to Management

Remember who helped build this company in the past 20 years. Management needs to thank you employees more than a token once a year for busting their tails to turn a profit. Don't forget where YOU came from!
