I have been working at Seaboard Marine full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Seaboard is a good company to work for with generous benefits (Medical/Dental insurance, 401k, pension, PTO, tuition reimbursement). In my experience, coworkers have been very supportive and a pleasure to work with. My manager has always been very fair and consistent, always giving me the tools I need to be successful at work. The company is currently experiencing a lot of growth so there is a lot of opportunity to work overtime and to grow. Jobs will be steady and secure.

    Cons

There are few employees that might be challenging to work with, though I wouldn't say it is a representation of the company as a whole. Starting pay might be low but there are pay increases given with evaluations.

I have been working at Seaboard Marine full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Steady employment with great benefits, no reductions in hours or workforce. Ample opportunities to learn the business and processes, horizontal growth

    Cons

Low starting pay, limited growth opportunity to supervisor or above

    Advice to Management

More employee development and competitive pay

    Pros

Seaboard is a good stable company with a great benefits package. HR is fair and does a great job with company events.

    Cons

Promote company culture and Seaboard brand with employees.

    Pros

I haven't found any yet. Benefits are offered from the date you start but are paid by the employee.

    Cons

Management is very closed minded and is offended by suggestion on how to improve the workflow. Lack of cross training leads to disaster when someone is on vacation. Human Resources only protects management, not employees. It would be a great company to work for if they took out the garbage.

    Advice to Management

Extensive training in how to treat employees with respect. Lack of professionalism when speaking to clients. Clients keep the company above water, and rude, unprofessional employees jeopardize that.

I have been working at Seaboard Marine full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits from day one. Something you don't see in most big companies.

    Cons

This company is run like a banana republic. Only those who are in the innner circle or family members of management will get good reviews and promotions. Also once management wants you gone, they will make your life a living hell, so that you can uit. Emplooee turnover is incredible; most employees don't last a year.

    Advice to Management

Hire leaders, not bosses. Hire personel with people skills and your company will be more successul.

I have been working at Seaboard Marine full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Excelent benefits, 401K, health & dental insurance. Great deal of camaraderie!

    Cons

    Not enough communication between departments.

    Advice to Management

Commercial divisions need to follow same standards.

I have been working at Seaboard Marine full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Seaboard Marine's management cares about the employees. Although it may not be visible to the average employee who does not deal with the top management, there is a constant concern in retaining the hard working, talented, and dedicated individuals that have shown loyalty and a strong work ethic. The company offers a pension plan in addition to a 401k plan; not many companies offer this. The atmosphere in Medley and at the Port reflects a great deal of camaraderie. It is a fast paced, high volume environment but you do get a sense of unity.

    Cons

    Insufficient communication with all ranks.

Ok company if you want job security and no career aspirations

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Seaboard Marine full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Job security as long as you do your job, follow rules and come in ontime.

    Cons

    - Salaries are low due to not wanting to recruit top-talent. - Organization is run like a 'mom & pop' shop, with many conflict of interests throughout the company (i.e. personal relationships, relatives, etc.) - Lack of follow-thru on projects. - Business application systems are 'dated' to say the least. - Afraid to be progressive and edge-out the competition. - Lack of leadership. - No accountability by employees who have been w/the company for a long time.

    Advice to Management

Corporate should re-evaluate all senior and mid management to 'cut-the-fat' as there are a lot of executives who do not 'get-it'. Take a page from 'Maersk' or 'Crowley'.
