Seagate is a dinosaur

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Seagate Technology

ProsThe only good thing about working at Seagate is that they pay well. They have to, nobody wants to go into this technology field anymore.

ConsUnable to adapt to changing markets and to utilize the talent and technology within the company to expand beyond rotating storage. Upper management is so afraid to fail, they don't take risk. Blame for the eventual failure is pushed down the organization. Lots of dead wood kissing upper management's behinds.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a careful look at what your senior management team has actually achieved lately relative to where the PC market is and what the competition has done. Very mediocre.

I have been working at Seagate Technology

ProsA good team work environment. Respect, team work, many talents, knowledge share. Nice managers. freedom working hour. not as busy as WD.

Constoo many managers, company cost is much higher than competitor. Once layoff, manager can survive while engineers will be laidoff. Too many meetings, manager drive meeting crasy while drive results less.

Advice to Senior ManagementManager should spend more time to follow engineers work, cannot listen to somebody only.
Make a fair comments on engineers contribution.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Seagate Technology

ProsIt is a good company if you are not aggressive and ambitous, Overall work is at slow pace and hence career growth is slow,

ConsVery slow career growth. Company is risk averse and hence you end up being behind the technology curve versus others,

Promotions

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Longmont, CO

I have been working at Seagate Technology

ProsSalaries seem to be in line with industry averages. (at least for the lower level)

ConsPromotions are unheard of. Seems that the hard working employees get passed over for promotions.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to give promotions to those that deserve them (the hard working ones), instead of those that play the game. There are far too many employees that are higher level and don't know what they are doing.

Continues to have too many leaders with ample politics.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Longmont, CO

I worked at Seagate Technology

ProsThe company does have great benefits and salary.

ConsIts all about who you know and not what you know. Until that culture changes, the company will not be the leader in the industry.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of the politics or you won't survive.
