    Pros

Pay is decent and majority of workforce is top-notch. Technology is exciting and pace is fast.

    Cons

Executive management mostly is not helpful. Structural problems in many organizations limit improvements that can be made.

    Advice to Management

Tie bonus compensation to what lower level employees receive. It makes no sense why VPs and above get multiple 10's of % bonus when employees get 1%. Move low performing directors out of their position and get people that want to make a difference in those positions.

    Pros

work life balance-- 9 to 5, cant believe those companies still exist :)
    decent pay
    decent benefits
    good co-workers
company is doing alright for now

    Cons

    no career growth
except for few groups, its mundane work, nothing cutting edge
a dinosaur-- not sure if it can survive in the rapidly changing industry, with competition from smaller, nimble companies
if you want to grow this is not the place; if you want to spend a few years before your retirement then this is the place
    location--winters get really brutal

    Advice to Management

its only a matter of time before ssd companies start taking your business, make sure products in new markets are successful. take initiatives to change the work culture, make sure ppl are challenged on a daily basis and things are actually deliver on schedule. engineer culture needs a major revamp.

    Pros

The compensation is good, and the company is flexible about your time off and working hours. The U.S. sites are outgrowing the 8-5 working hours culture and recognizing that business in a company that circles the globe happens 24 hours a day.

    Cons

Still uses a stacked ranking system and there is little visibility to comparisons between departments. This forces the same distribution of rankings down to a small department level. If you hire well and build a talented department this can be very demotivating.

    Advice to Management

Change the ranking system to get more in tune with modern management practices.

    Pros

-Excellent , Knowledgeable , Cooperative Colleagues
-Well established processes for operation and development
-Will get a chance to work with all the tools of the trade ( Lauterback Emulator, Lecroy/Xilinx protocol Analyzers, Perforce, Slickedit etc ) and learn industry standard storage protocols like SAS and SATA. ( PCIe too if you join SSD team )
    - ESPP, 401k match, Health Care are good. Bonus is good during ( and only during) boom years.
    -Good work Life Balance

    Cons

-Very limited growth potential for new employees. You are looking at 4-5 years to get to the next level.
-Your immediate manager has very limited power and that shows when it comes to yearly reviews.Decisions regarding promotion taken at a higher level by people you might rarely interact.
-To get ahead you need to get "visibility". To get that you first need to be seen as good. But to be recognized as good you need to be in good projects. See where I am going with this !!!
-HDD business is always in a boom-bust cycle. One year you are making record profit margins. Next year you are talking about salary/ hiring freeze.
-I think the compensation ratio is not reflecting the actual reality.
-Weather is horrible during winter. But, summer and fall are nice.

    Advice to Management

Please recognize employees contributions more. Provide raises and promotions in a timely manner.

    Pros

Seagate has a very fast paced environment. General compensation is all right. People are very smart and easy to work together with.

    Cons

There are very little career growth opportunities within Seagate. Overall working environment is depressing. New ideas are not given enough room to grow

    Advice to Management

Top management needs to give new ideas more room to prosper and not kill them prematurely.
