    Pros

Awesome people to work with here, fit in right away. Real, challenging projects to work on that teach you a ton. Great job connecting us with the other interns over the summer.

    Cons

People here can be busy! My mentor sometimes struggled to find time to work with me on things/include me on his projects ... but it didn't make me enjoy the internship any less.

    Pros

    1) Incredibly smart, dedicated, principled and operationally effective colleagues. 2) One of the most truly "global" companies on the planet due to the way work gets done in this vertically integrated and globally distributed organization. Stay here and you'll see the world. 3) Though the market leader "big dog" for many years, this is a company that NEVER rests on its laurels. 4) The company's ability to plan and implement is truly remarkable. This includes internal programs like "Business Excellence" (Six Sigma, Lean, etc.), as well as technology innovations. 5) Very few tech companies provide the convergence of so many technical disciplines to innovate at such a high level. Seagate employs hundreds of PhDs and is one of the leading filers of patents in the US.

    Cons

    1) The need to interface with teams around the globe (and around the clock), and meet/beat deadlines can oftentimes have an impact on work-life balance. Some roles are especially challenging in this regard. 2) All products have a very short window of opportunity for market share and margins, so the pressure to innovate and optimize those opportunities is intense. This has gone on so long that it seems normal, but other companies build their strategy around "annuities" and have less pressure of this sort.

    Pros

Decent pay and benefits, flexible schedule, challenging work

    Cons

Constantly cutting costs. For example: max vacation accrual rate per year was recently cut by 5 days. Inconsistent budgeting across organizations.

    Pros

Compensation and benefits are the best I've had Lot of focus on motivating and engaging employees Very inclusive and smart group of people, everyone has been very helpful in my short stint so far Lots of folks with 15+ years in the company - good to see loyalty inspired Evolving technologies forces people to keep learning new things

    Cons

Messages coming from top management are sometime confusing (in terms of long term outlook of the company and business)

    Advice to Management

Too early to say too much - keep continued focus on motivating and caring for employees. This is a differentiator that I've not experienced in past jobs (and I've had several)

    Pros

Many smart people work together on challenging projects. Most people have worked for Seagate at least a decade, but there is room for upward movement as people transfer internally or retire. The leaders give employees room to experiment and have a good work-life balance.

    Cons

Employee reorganizations happen often, are sudden, and can be accompanied by layoffs. The reorgs are top-down with little input from the bulk of employees. Some upper level managers seem ignorant to rising technological disruptions.

    Advice to Management

Share information freely with employees that concerns job security. Try to limit the number of meetings in the workplace to improve efficiency.

    Pros

Everyone I worked with was eager to help me get started. They also spent extra time helping me and others. Enjoyable place to work

    Cons

Will there be growth in HDD sales in 5 years or will it be flash? Questionable long term HDD opportunity.

    Advice to Management

Are they properly looking to the future and investing in flash? When flash gets to 0.20 cents per gig, HDDs are a tough sell.

    Pros

Seagate is very flexible with work life balance. Everyone works hard to get products released and keep customers happy.

    Cons

Work is always intense with long hours. Nothing great ever comes from easy work.

    Advice to Management

Always say thank you to employees for great work. Bonuses are always a great way to show appreciation, but at least saying thank means a lot.

    Pros

A great place to gain experience in a corporate environment. Plenty of resources available for continuous learning of applications and certifications.

    Cons

It seems that career growth may be limited in this particular function. I have been under the impression that this function is as highly recognized as other functions.

    Pros

    - Very organized HR policies - Clean building, nice infrastructure to work

    Cons

    - Too many useless processes at some sites, you are directly competing with engineers from other sites who dont have to go through all the processes and they can be more productive - if you are stuck in a team which does not get visibility at upper level, your career is doomed - dont recognize all the employees for hard work, only some

    Advice to Management

There are many hard working engineers working for promotion....its not their job to make themselves visible to you, its your job to give them what they deserve.
