    Pros

    New clean office. Good location.

    Cons

Endless work. Very political culture. Petty management. If you wanted to survive there, constantly kiss up. The product is 2nd tier, the management is 3rd tier and narrow minded.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop comparing who's more rich. It's sickening to average employees.

    Pros

Can be a solid company if the right people are in the right place.
    Talented individuals in the company
    Semi-good products

    Cons

    Low morale
    Bad company culture
    Management is clueless
    Employees are dissatisfied

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Concentrate on your employees. There is extremely low morale in the company and EVERYONE wants to leave the company. In the past 6 months, I know at least 2-3 people that have left our team/company each week.

If you don't believe me, take a survey.

    Pros

Individuals who are excellent to work with and get to know
Flexible schedule (For those who are not bound to working a specific shift)
    Casual work environment

    Cons

No rewards for exceeding expectations, everyone is treated the same. You will be treated the same as the worst person in your department.
There is no room for advancement, everyone is stagnant. There is absolutely nothing to aim for or look forward to. It doesn't matter how good you are or how big of difference you make. Everyone is constrained, held back, and equally diminished by the corporate executives and their socialist policies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward your many excellent employees for their hard work and outstanding accomplishments. They deserve it! Stop treating everyone the same. Even the smallest positive gesture towards a well-deserving employee can go a long, long way. Seriously though, treat people fairly. People who deserve raises and rewards should get them. People who don't should not. We are not all equal. If we are, then there is no reason to be motivated. Stop blaming the macro economy and using it as justification for your poor treatment of the employees.

    Pros

Well, it's not better than being unemployed, so I can't think of any.

    Cons

This company is very stingy with employees. To cope with the economic downturn, they told us to use up our 2008 vacation and that there would be no layoffs. A month later, in January, 2009, they laid off a large number of employees. A VP spoke to us as a group, claiming to regret the decision. But, the day before he was laughing gleefully immediately after the CEO announced to directors and above that the layoff would take place.

They have always managed to add insult to injury, in my experience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management acquired in Dec 2008 created the problems that division is having.

    Pros

The only global IT office in the region creating many opportunities for IT graduates/experts.

    Cons

Some managers are already sitting in their comfort zone and are very difficult to listen to others and innovate, both in business and operation wises. Promotion is difficult unless employees attempt to resign. Managers hardly fight for employee for their rights and benefit. Relationship with headquarter is like vendor providing services to customers without a sense of belonging. Still using punch-card system for some sites!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide two-way performance appraisal system and act accordingly based on final rating given. Put punch-card machines in nearest museum. Enable job rotation in real life by allowing employees switch to another team/job function.

I have been working at Seagate Technology full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Only two pros that I can think of in working for Seagate in Derry, and they are the four days off and health insurance.

    Cons

Where do I start.. poor pay structure, some employees are earning just above minimum wage.Store shelf stackers earn more an hour than the average operator.Bullying is rife from some of the managers.Treatment of operators is horrendous.Seen as third class citizens.promotions within company now are virtually impossible to get.The appraisal system does not work. You could do ten times the work of a guy beside you but he will get a higher appraisal because he kisses a lot of ass.Morale between the operators is the lowest ive seen it at and im with the company ten years.A lot of people in "management" do very little for the pay that they are on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

too many in management and days staff and not enough operators.overhaul the appraisal system.equal pay for all operators ,send managers on a course on how to talk and deal with people.

    Pros

Some good folks who really want to make a difference, but the factory and engineering leadership have disabled future growth. Pays well but not enough to keep good talent.

    Cons

Factory and engineering led to the point of disfunction. No understanding of the market, no future strategy and they aren't running it like a business. Could be a great place if they drove change with more customer and marketing leadership.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

drive change now! industry consolidation has taken place - break the factory and engineering stranglehold - they are key attributes to succeed, but you have to have business leadership in place to utilize the factory and engineering assets properly. Steve is a very capable leader, but needs a more rounded mgmt team around him.
