    Pros

Awesome people to work with here, fit in right away. Real, challenging projects to work on that teach you a ton. Great job connecting us with the other interns over the summer.

    Cons

People here can be busy! My mentor sometimes struggled to find time to work with me on things/include me on his projects ... but it didn't make me enjoy the internship any less.

    Pros

Gym on site. Great benefits. Good worklife balance. Employees are treated well.

    Cons

Lots and lots of managers. Company is segmented into an older class of employees and young. Not very many in between. Likely going to have lay-offs.

    Pros

Great company with awesome benefits even for an intern. Very competitive pay and great management and mentor to help you learn.

    Cons

Not much to say about cons for this experience. I will say that it got a little boring and people would sometimes forget about you if you didn't ask for more work to do.

    Advice to Management

Don't forget about your low level employees. Most of us are willing to work and do more than you expect us to do.

    Pros

    1) Incredibly smart, dedicated, principled and operationally effective colleagues. 2) One of the most truly "global" companies on the planet due to the way work gets done in this vertically integrated and globally distributed organization. Stay here and you'll see the world. 3) Though the market leader "big dog" for many years, this is a company that NEVER rests on its laurels. 4) The company's ability to plan and implement is truly remarkable. This includes internal programs like "Business Excellence" (Six Sigma, Lean, etc.), as well as technology innovations. 5) Very few tech companies provide the convergence of so many technical disciplines to innovate at such a high level. Seagate employs hundreds of PhDs and is one of the leading filers of patents in the US.

    Cons

    1) The need to interface with teams around the globe (and around the clock), and meet/beat deadlines can oftentimes have an impact on work-life balance. Some roles are especially challenging in this regard. 2) All products have a very short window of opportunity for market share and margins, so the pressure to innovate and optimize those opportunities is intense. This has gone on so long that it seems normal, but other companies build their strategy around "annuities" and have less pressure of this sort.

    Pros

Great first step into a large corporation. Has a wide variety of technology knowledge in the storage industry to store all of the data that continues to grow in our modern age. Really cool to interact with all types of engineering disciplines to make a hard drive work.

    Cons

Hit or miss depending on position, team, and tasks given to really accelerate your career here. I've seen colleagues do really well and get tons of visibility with meaningful projects, and others that just get the bottom of the barrel work, don't get heard, or just get stuck with patch work instead of real engineering work.

    Advice to Management

Be more open and transparent in communications. When teams are being overloaded, need to slow down and plan things out so that people aren't constantly putting out fires and only making short term patches instead of long term solutions.
