    Pros

Great first step into a large corporation. Has a wide variety of technology knowledge in the storage industry to store all of the data that continues to grow in our modern age. Really cool to interact with all types of engineering disciplines to make a hard drive work.

    Cons

Hit or miss depending on position, team, and tasks given to really accelerate your career here. I've seen colleagues do really well and get tons of visibility with meaningful projects, and others that just get the bottom of the barrel work, don't get heard, or just get stuck with patch work instead of real engineering work.

    Advice to Management

Be more open and transparent in communications. When teams are being overloaded, need to slow down and plan things out so that people aren't constantly putting out fires and only making short term patches instead of long term solutions.

    Pros

Great People, Great Installations, Leading edge products.

    Cons

Risk averse management. Very political middle management. Very much an ask permission company. So much focus on cost and margin management that too many opportunities are passed up.

    Advice to Management

Slow and steady misses the boat.

    Pros

I managed to join a fantastic group with plenty of room for creativity with supportive management. I enjoy going to work every day and accomplishing something that makes a real impact. Great benefits and average pay.

    Cons

This is not the case everywhere in the company, I talk to people from different groups whose ideas are ignored and there's little room for change or progress.

    Advice to Management

Allow creativity and listen to ideas, don't prevent change just because that's the way it's been for the past 15 years.

    Pros

Compensation and benefits are the best I've had
Lot of focus on motivating and engaging employees
Very inclusive and smart group of people, everyone has been very helpful in my short stint so far
Lots of folks with 15+ years in the company - good to see loyalty inspired
Evolving technologies forces people to keep learning new things

    Cons

Messages coming from top management are sometime confusing (in terms of long term outlook of the company and business)

    Advice to Management

Too early to say too much - keep continued focus on motivating and caring for employees. This is a differentiator that I've not experienced in past jobs (and I've had several)

    Pros

I was given the opportunity to learn and grow into a role within the organization. Seagate's tendency to promote internally allowed for that and I appreciate the opportunity greatly. There's high respect for peers within Seagate, with mixed respect from managers depending on the manager. I had a great couple of managers.

The work/life balance was nice including a general ability to take time in the middle of the day to run a personal errand or something similar. The benefits were average, except for the employee stock purchase plan which was exceptional while I was there.

The company is very entrenched into its market. That can make for a reliable job. The technology is aging, but Seagate management is very forward looking and I imagine will continue to adapt to the upcoming changing technologies in digital storage.

    Cons

There was a lot of meetings for meetings sake, which I think comes from everyone wanting to be involved in exciting stuff. Although there wasn't always enough exciting stuff to go around, there was plenty of "tactical" work, or mundane repetitive process work for everyone. There's a lot of room for improvement in cross functional automation and internal processes.

    Advice to Management

Keep investing in your people as you are, but stay consistent. It seemed there was a new training direction ever 6-12months without reason (or the reason wasn't communicated).

Regarding the cross-functional and process improvements: enable those folks that are catalysts for action. I saw talent come and go because it was frustrated trying to get through internal obstacles, whereas the less-than-talented would have no incentive to move on or change roles.

The IMAP review process always felt too subjective, and more of a chore than an opportunity.
