    Not too shabby

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsFlexible schedule, no individual sales goals, fun girls, and no trying to get customers to open a credit account....like dept stores.

ConsComing from a cosmetic counter, the hardest part was learning about several different cosmetic lines.

    The play Pin

    Fragrance Consultant (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsTons of training and product knowledge. Enough to make you a skilled expert.

ConsOnce you are an "expert" advancement is limited. Most of leadership lacks interpersonal skills and training. Basically artists being managed by robots.

An incredibly exciting place to work, high performance company dominating the industry.

    Merchandise Coordinator (Current Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

ProsCompany dominating the industry, high growth. On the height of innovation and creativity. An exciting brand to work for, even more exciting brands to work with. Amazing people, tons of gratis.

ConsSephora has growth into an industry giant without the processes and infrastructure of its more established competitors. Intense workloads, lack of work life balance.

I've worked there for over 7 years with about a 1.55 raise....

    Color Expert (Current Employee)
    Saint Louis, MO

ProsI like the variety of products and the fast paced environment ( mostly on weekends) and the gratis is amazing....

ConsThe manager turn over is off the charts and with each new one the " rules" change constantly.

Advice to Senior ManagementI feel when you have worked with a company for over seven years you should be getting a decent raise! I should be making way more then I am for my experience.

    Unfortunate

    Operations Consultant (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

    ProsImmediate management are good people.

Consformer GM is not an adult

Advice to Senior ManagementCorporate should hire adults for GMs and DMs. The last GM in the SOHO store was not qualified and not mature enough for the position.

    Lead who was misled

    Color Lead (Former Employee)
    Seattle, WA

ProsA solid company with great values and an amazing plan for the future- a company that really believes the client comes first, work life balance in retail is important and teamwork is key to success, Gratis and monthly bonuses were always great too.

ConsIt is very unfortunate that I ended up working in the store I did. I feel as though the location ruined my Sephora experience. My SD and her two Soecialists were not a great team and unfortunately did not lead there people. For a staff of what should have been 50 at times we had over 100% turnover. They never once saw that it was them. Unfortunately neither did the DM. It is too easy to point fingers at the staff, "they just weren't a good fit." Having the background I do I have run stores of a similar stature to this Sephora and was over qualified for the job I took but was planning to grow with the the company. I soon saw that my leader was not leading me but rather using me to do her job and take the stress off her as her leader was doing the same.
This store was full of drama and gossip as most retail environments are. The Managers did not know how to handle the cast. They avoided small things and took things personally. There were also some definite ethical issues going on that led me to leave. I ultimately felt I had a definite lack of support. A DM who I was always told to be ready to present my business too, yet he never had the time of day for anyone but the SD, or an SD who was disconnected from her associates and spent 3/4 of her day in the office.
Sephora could have been a really great place to work for me but the people running my store ruined it for me. You don't work for companies, you work for people... Something to consider- the stress wasn't worth it. I feel uncomfortable shopping in that store now even.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou really need to shake up your leadership teams. Your Specialists and SD's have you fooled at what is really going on- you must be blind if you can't see an issue with all the turnover in your stores. "It's not us it's them..." Really?? Nordstrom and ULTA appreciate all the money you are spending on training their recruits...

    Not Bad

    Product Consultant (Former Employee)

ProsGenerous with gratis and great product/brand exposure.
    Fun environment to work in.

    ConsCompensation was not the best.
You don't know your work schedule until the week of/before, so you can't really plan anything in advance.

    Seasonal Cast Member

    Cast Member (Former Employee)

ProsWorking with great coworkers and great clients. Makeup and skincare is fun and challenging to work in. I learned a lot and enjoyed going to work everyday.

ConsLOTS of things really need to be improved with some members of management. That's all I'm going to say.

Advice to Senior ManagementOpen your eyes, and don't play favorites. Discrimination is an ugly thing.
