I have been working at Shaw Communications part-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Great pay, flexible schedule,

    Cons

Supervisors who micro manage you, only way to advance is kiss supervisors butt, to many cliques. Big brother is watching.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop micro managing your staff, give some breathing room for employees who have a life outside of Shaw. Consider
that not every employee wants to devote their life to Shaw. There is a world outside of Shaw and some of your employees want to experience it.

    Pros

Good benefit and promote work life balance. Compensation is not the best in oil city but fair. Great employee discount for Shaw products.

    Cons

Company has always been talking about training, but it's always been just lip service. In various promotions, it not necessary the best candidate gets the job but who you know.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember our history and the people that got us to where we are. Mgmt. at all levels need to surround themselves with not just the people they know or like, but based on what is in the best interest of the company, share holders and customers.

I have been working at Shaw Communications full-time for more than 5 years

They treat employees with respect and they are always open to new ideas, innovation projects and ways to improve. However they still have a heavy managerial load and a lot of lengthy processes that make it hard for innovation to happen.

Salary is below the industry average, there is no recognition for exceeding performance.

I worked at Shaw Communications as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Shaw hires 10 Co-op students each term for Engineering department and provides some tours and lunches for the students.
You get to learn a lot and usually the hiring manager looks for soft skills rather than technical ones.
Work hours are flexible, generally good work culture and colleagues are generally helpful.
Very diverse team of people from different countries and experiences.

    Cons

Some managers may be very hard to chase down and not very helpful.
Some managers might not be good at giving work or managing co-op students.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better brief the managers about the co-op program and project requirements.
